Rangers Preview – Can the Gers make the most of home advantage?

Rangers pulled off the shock result of the previous round when they saw off Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund over two legs. The Gers won 4-2 at the Westfalenstadion, with an own goal and strikes from James Tavernier (2), Alfredo Morelos and John Lundstram doing the damage.

Dortmund were still the favourites when they arrived at Ibrox for the second leg. However, Rangers took the lead thanks to Tavernier’s penalty before Borussia fired themselves into a 2-1 lead. Skipper Tavernier had the last laugh, though, equalising in the 57th minute. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men without doubt deserved their 6-4 aggregate victory.

Our betting prediction:

Rangers are unbeaten in nine league and cup games since losing to Celtic in the Premiership on 2nd February. Can they keep up their fine form and secure a big home win on Thursday?

Red Star Belgrade Preview – Will the Serbs secure a positive result in Glasgow?

Red Star Belgrade are currently two points behind fierce rivals Partizan in Serbia’s top tier. Both teams have suffered just one defeat from 21 league games, and it is a two-horse race for top place.

Red Star were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in the qualifiers, dropping into the Europa League as a result. After reaching the group stage, the Red-Whites went on to win their group and qualify directly for the last 16.

Dejan Stankovic’s men are in stunning form domestically, winning 12 and drawing one of 13 since their one and only league reverse. Will they take their league form into Europe? The away victory on Thursday is priced at 4/1.

Rangers vs Red Star Belgrade Betting Advice

This will be the first meeting between the two since they locked horns in the Champions League qualifiers at the start of the 2007-08 season. The Scots won 1-0 at home and drew 0-0 away to go through.

Red Star won 5-1 on aggregate in a two-legged European affair back in 1990, winning 3-0 at home and drawing 1-1 in Glasgow.

Key Facts – Rangers vs Red Star Belgrade Betting Tip

  • Rangers beat Dortmund in the previous round
  • Red Star finished top of their Europa League group
  • The Gers have won ten and drawn two of their last 12 at Ibrox

Red Star will be no pushovers over two legs, but Rangers will take inspiration from the Dortmund win, and we fancy Van Bronckhorst’s boys to make home advantage count on Thursday. It could be close on the scoreline, so take a punt on the hosts to win by one goal at 5/2.

Rangers won 1-0 against Aberdeen in their last match. You can get a repeat scoreline on Thursday at the tempting price of 6/1.
