Game of the week in Germany sees second place Borussia Dortmund travel to an improving RB Leipzig team who are now unbeaten in their last six Bundesliga games.

Considering this is a team so used to competing in the top three of the Bundesliga, Leipzig’s start to the season was a bit of surprise. One win and three defeats in their first five league matches was not the start that Jesse Marsch was hoping for following his move from Salzburg in the summer. Confidence will be boosted by a deserved 2-2 draw at home to PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday. It was their first point in the group stage but they have generally performed well. Christian Nkunku has been the star man both domestically and in Europe, he has 10 goals for the season already.

Borussia Dortmund are on course to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League but they are fresh off the back of a second straight humbling at the hands of Ajax. A 3-1 home defeat in midweek was influenced largely by the unfortunate dismissal of Mats Hummels in the first half, however. Marco Rose will be telling his players to forget that and concentrate on their league form.
Dortmund are searching for a fifth straight win in the league and attempting to keep the pressure on Bayern Munich who they trail by two points at the top of the Bundesliga.

What’s been the most impressive thing about their recent results domestically is they are picking up wins and scoring goals without the services of Erling Haaland. He’s missed the last two league victories over Arminia Bielefeld and FC Koln. Dortmund have picked up maximum points from those matches, scoring five goals.
This is an obvious step-up in quality for them without their star man, however. And having already lost away to Borussia Monchengladbach and Freiburg this season it does suggest they are vulnerable when they travel to face the better teams in the league.
