RB Leizpig Preview – Can Jesse Marsch lead his team to what would be a significant three points?

Considering this is a team so used to competing in the top three of the Bundesliga, Leipzig’s start to the season was a bit of surprise. One win and three defeats in their first five league matches was not the start that Jesse Marsch was hoping for following his move from Salzburg in the summer. To his credit, it doesn’t look as though it is going to be a prolonged issue. Leipzig have taken 11 points from their most recent five matches. And it could easily have been better.

They conceded a goal with virtually the last kick of the ball in a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out whilst they also held the lead on their travels against Freiburg last month.

That improvement now sees them sit in eighth place but just two points outside the top four. Qualification for the Champions League is the obvious aim and if they can keep up this sort of form then it would be naive to think they’re not in with a great chance of doing so.

Confidence will be boosted by a deserved 2-2 draw at home to PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday. It was their first point in the group stage but they have generally performed well. Christian Nkunku has been the star man both domestically and in Europe, he has 10 goals for the season already.

Borussia Dortmund Preview – Will Dortmund keep on the heels of leaders Bayern with a fifth straight league win?

Borussia Dortmund are on course to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League but they are fresh off the back of a second straight humbling at the hands of Ajax. A 3-1 home defeat in midweek was influenced largely by the unfortunate dismissal of Mats Hummels in the first half, however. Marco Rose will be telling his players to forget that and concentrate on their league form.

Dortmund are searching for a fifth straight win in the league and attempting to keep the pressure on Bayern Munich who they trail by two points at the top of the Bundesliga.

What’s been the most impressive thing about their recent results domestically is they are picking up wins and scoring goals without the services of Erling Haaland. He’s missed the last two league victories over Arminia Bielefeld and FC Koln. Dortmund have picked up maximum points from those matches, scoring five goals.

This is an obvious step-up in quality for them without their star man, however. And having already lost away to Borussia Monchengladbach and Freiburg this season it does suggest they are vulnerable when they travel to face the better teams in the league.

RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund Betting Advice

If Dortmund are to really keep pace with Bayern in the title race then this is the sort of game where they have to show their credentials. It’s their home form which is predominantly keeping them in the mix just now but that won’t be enough over the course of the season.

Any slim hopes that Leipzig had of contending for the title are now over after that slow start, but they could be in the top four come the end of this weekend with a win.

Key Facts – RB Leizpig vs Borussia Dortmund Betting Tip

  • Leipzig have won four out of five at home, scoring 18 goals in the process
  • Dortmund have already lost to ‘Gladbach and Freiburg on their travels this season
  • The visitors are looking for a fourth straight win away from home in this fixture

It’s Dortmund who hold the upper hand in recent meetings between the two. They have won six of the last seven including the last visits to this stadium. The absence of Haaland is a clear hindrance to them of course.

Five of the last seven meetings have had four or more goals in them. Over 3 looks a solid bet on this occasion.
