The closest title race in the Bundesliga could take another turn this weekend as top of the table Leipzig host Borussia Monchengladback who sit in third. Two points separate the teams at the top of the table.

RB Leipzig Preview – Will Leipzig bounce back from disappointing away defeat last time out and resume their winning form?

Due to Bayern Munich’s dominance of German football any team sitting at the top of the table are going to have questions asked of them. RB Leipzig were four points clear heading to face Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend only to turn in a dismal performance which seen them beaten 2-0. It was just their second away defeat of the season but how significant it is remains to be seen.

Their last loss came at the end of October before going 14 games unbeaten (winning 11 of them) in all competitions. That’s the sort of response that coach Julian Nagelsmann will be hoping for again.

There’s no doubting that Leipzig are making strides under Nagelsmann but there will be a question of their mentality when they lose games and Bayern continue to pile on the pressure. In many ways Saturday’s game is probably the sort of match they need as they look to bounce back and remain top of the league.

Borussia Monchengladbach Preview – Can Gladbach inflict just a second home defeat of the season on opponents and overtake them?

Gladbach have had a similar return from the winter break to their opponents this Saturday in that they have lost on the road, first game back, and won comfortably enough at home. Marco Rose now knows that his team have to go on the road and pick up points against a top of the table rival. Their own title ambitions are probably less obvious than RB Leipzig as they make a more modest ascent to the top of German football.

Where Marco Rose may be more concerned is the teams queuing up behind them in the race for top four.

If Gladbach are to stay in the conversation for a title challenge but also in the Champions League places then their recent away form will have to improve. Defeat to Schalke a couple of weeks ago was their four games without a win on their travels in the league.

In that period they have failed to score in three of their matches. Scoring goals in general has been something of an issue for them compared to the other top four teams which in itself is an indication that they may be below that standard.

Leipzig have only lost two of their last 27 home games in the Bundesliga and I don’t see that record worsening on Saturday. Gladbach have shown very little away from home of late and their lack of firepower and attacking threat against Schalke in their most recent away game would be a concern.
