Roma – Mourinho satisfied at the midway stage?

Having held on for the draw in England when a narrow loss would probably have been a fairer outcome, there is no doubting which manager is the more content at half-time in this semi-final. Jose Mourinho is Mr. Tournament Football, and the Portuguese recognised the importance of getting his team back to Italy with the tie still very much alive. That much has been achieved. But can they finish the job in Rome, though?

A long unbeaten record in European competition at Stadio Olimpico suggests the hosts present an incredibly strong case to make the final. The Giallorossi are currently 18 games unbeaten (W11 D7) here in Rome, winning three and draw twice en route to the UECL last four. Moreover, Mourinho would also ring the changes over the weekend, a goalless draw at home to Bologna marking a fourth successive winless outing.

Key Stat: Roma’s home matches in Europe this term have seen an average of 3.8 goals per game, seeing Over 3.5 Goals in four of their five Stadio Olimpico fixtures thus far.

Leicester – Foxes must buck poor recent form?

Brendan Rodgers felt his team “really dominated the game” at the King Power Stadium but only had Ademola Lookman’s second-half strike which brought the sides back on parity to show for it. Now, the Foxes must do what none of the last 18 teams to have visited Stadio Olimpico in Europe could manage if they are to reach a maiden UEFA final: defeat the Giallorossi in front of a passionate and raucous crowd.

There ought to be a freshness about the visitors. Rodgers made a host of personnel changes for Sunday’s 3-1 loss at Tottenham in the Premier League. It did come at the expense of another disappointing result, though, with that a fifth game in a row last season’s FA Cup winners fell short of winning (D3 L2). Moreover, they’ve only recorded one victory across their last seven fixtures away from home (D1 D2 L4).

Key Stat: Leicester will carry a threat in Rome. The Foxes have scored in 9 of the last 10 away matches in all competitions, the last six of these all seeing both teams score.

Roma Vs Leicester Betting Advice

The teams couldn’t be separated over in England, which suits the Italians more in the knowledge they have lost none of their last 18 matches in UEFA competition as the hosts. However, if the likes of Bodo/Glimt and Vitessa can go to Rome and secure favourable results, then it certainly isn’t beyond a Leicester outfit which went to PSV Eindhoven in the previous round and came away with the victory they needed.

Roma Vs Leicester City – Key Facts:

  • After a 1-1 draw in England, Roma are marginal favourites to qualify for the first ever final in the UEFA Europa Conference League. The Italians are unbeaten in their last 18 European home games (W11 D7).
  • Roma have played five times in Rome in this season’s European campaign, with these games seeing on average 3.8 goals. Only one didn’t produce four or more goals.
  • Leicester would only fail to score in one of six away European games so far this season. The Foxes netted twice on their only visit to Italy in 2021-22, in a 3-2 loss to Napoli.

A recurring theme whenever Roma play at home in Europe this season is goals, with four of their five said matches seeing four or more. Their only clean sheets, however, were against Zorya Luhansk and Bodo/Glimt, the latter scoring twice during the group stage before blanking in their QF meeting. Leicester have scored in six successive away matches and in all three away legs of this UECL campaign, totalling five in all.
