Sale Sharks vs Glasgow Warriors Betting Tip 1 – 18th January 2020

Warriors value to secure rare away win south of the border

This could be a battle for second place in Pool 2 of the European Champions Cup, or it could all be for nothing. Sale starts the fixture bottom of the pile with a five-point deficit and even if they were to win with a bonus point, it wouldn’t get them through to the quarter-finals.

Glasgow do still have that opportunity open for them. The Warriors have to collect a win in this one and hope for some favourable results elsewhere, to get through to the knockout stage. If they lose and La Rochelle beat Exeter, the French club take second. The visitors have to be up for this one.

Can Glasgow deliver the win that they need?

The Warriors played out a dramatic draw last weekend against pool winners Exeter. That was a home fixture for the Warriors and it left them sitting on 12 points. They are in a position of having to need this final pool stage fixture to try and get through to the last eight.

Of all the teams sitting second in their respective pools, Glasgow are the ones with the fewest points. Three of the five pool runners up will go through to the quarters. So the Warriors will need help from other departments to try and get through.

The Warriors opened their campaign against Sale and collected a 13-7 home victory, with all of their points being put on the board in the first half of the game. They conceded all the points in that one after the break. A worry for Glasgow is that they have only won 2 of their last 23 games away at English Premiership opposition.

Key-Facts – Sale vs Glasgow

  • Glasgow are playing for a best runners-up finish
  • Sale can’t qualify for the knockout stages
  • The Warriors have won 2 of their last 23 European away games at English clubs

Sharks out of touch in the final round of matches

There is nothing in the game for Sale Sharks here. They have posted a poor W1 L4 return so far from their efforts in this European campaign. So the door has already been shut on their quarter-final chances, so they may not be fully in top gear for this one.

The only victory that Sale have recorded in this pool happened at the AJ Bell Stadium in round two, with a 25-15 success over La Rochelle. In their other home game, they nearly produced an upset by beating Exeter, narrowly losing in the end 20-22.

The form of Sale isn’t great at the moment. They have lost their last three in a row and with no focus needed on this one, that may get extended.

Sale v Glasgow Prediction and tip

The head to head has all been with the home form between these two teams. However, this may be a decent time to buck the trend and roll with the visitors.

They have everything on the line in this one and do need to come up with the victory. A straight forward 1-7 winning margin on the visitors looks a sound proposition at 5/2* (betting odds taken from bet365 on January 16th, 2020 at 12:50 pm)
