Sevilla – Lopetegui’s men the 1-0 specialists?

Correct Score backers can do a lot worse than take a punt on the Saturday evening kick-off Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium finishing in a 1-0 scoreline. So far this season, four out of the five La Liga contests held at the residence of Sevilla (W6 D1 L4) have ended in a one-goal success for either side, with the hosts triumphant twice, versus Levante and Osasuna, but defeated the other two, by Eibar and Real Madrid.

In fact, that scoreline has cropped up in seven of Sevilla’s eleven league fixtures thus far, including four of the last five (W3 D1 L1), with the 1-0 correct score delivering a 63% success rate and returning a substantial profit over the course of the season. Last week’s trip to Getafe, therefore, was more of the same as Julen Lopetegui’s side overcame stubborn opposition to grind out a narrow 1-0 victory.

Sevilla were a little more expansive during their midweek Copa Del Rey encounter with fourth tier Ciudad de Lucena, against whom a largely second-string side ran out easy 3-0 winners. The Andalusians making it three wins in as many games across as many competitions, a run which initially begun with a 3-1 victory in France over Rennes as Los Palanganas qualified for the Champions League last-sixteen going unbeaten.

Valladolid – Impressive recovery from early slump to continue?

The visitors don’t appear to hold any particular fondness for specific scorelines, although they did have an aversion for winning in the early stages. Sergio Gonzalez’s team wouldn’t come out on top in any of their first eight matches in La Liga (D3 L5), scoring just five times across 720 minutes of league action as Valladolid (W3 D4 L6) quickly settled into the relegation zone on the back of a measly return of three points from 18.

It has been all change thereafter, though. Battling their way to victory last time out, coming from behind to win 3-2 at their Jose Zorrilla ground against Osasuna, Valladolid have since won three of the last five in La Liga. A run kick-started by back-to-back victories against Athletic Bilbao (2-1) and Granada (1-3) before a dip saw them take one point from meetings with Levante (1-1 at home) and Atletico Madrid (2-0).

They’ve scored nine times across this purple patch, at a rate of 1.8 per game, and registered 10 points from 15 to put some daylight – two points worth – between them and the bottom three. Carrying this form into Saturday should hold them in good stead, in a fixture they claimed a 1-1 draw in last term, however, the away record (W1 D1 L4) leaves a lot to be desired, having been beaten to nil on four occasions already.

Sevilla Vs Valladolid Betting Advice

A useful point was secured in this fixture last season by Valladolid. Sevilla, who were firm favourites on the day, needed a late penalty to salvage a 1-1 draw after defender Kiko Olivas had given the hosts a surprise lead in the first half. It was a contest the home side felt they ought to have won (xG: SEV 1.95 – 0.59). A similar display, however, would make it incredibly difficult for the visitors to maintain their excellent recent run.

Sevilla vs Real Valladolid – Key Facts:

  • Four of the six La Liga victories earned by Sevilla this season came via a 1-0 scoreline, with all but one of their five home encounters ending 1-0 (W2 L2).
  • After failing to win any of their first eight league games, Valladolid have since won three of the last five (W3 D1 L1).
  • Sevilla had won four successive La Liga head-to-heads prior to a 1-1 draw at Ramon Sanchez-Pijzuan last season, with three of those aforementioned successes to nil.

Three wins and only one defeat – that on the road against similar opposition in the shape of second place Atletico Madrid (2-0) – accrued from their last five league games has seen Valladolid clamber out of the La Liga relegation zone. Yet they have succumbed to four ‘to nil’ defeats in six away league outings this season. That is fairly ominous ahead of facing a Sevilla side boasting three wins to nil in the last five.
