Southampton Preview – Can Southampton gain first home win?
Southampton made a disappointing start to the new season as the south coast club side suffered three defeats on the trot in all competitions after being dealt losses against Crystal Palace 1-0 away from home and a 5-2 thrashing by Tottenham at home in the Premier League, along with an early exit in the League Cup to Championship side, Brentford.
Expectation was high down on the south coast that Southampton would enjoy another successful season this term after finishing with a solid looking seven-match unbeaten run in the top flight towards the end of the season and this could still happen, especially as they ground out a 1-0 win at Turf Moor against Barnsley.
Turf Moor is not an easy place to go to and collect all three points and this will give Saints a welcome boost ahead of this Sunday’s clash against newcomers, West Brom, but having registered recent wins against Manchester City and Sheffield United at home, Southampton will be confident they can record another win.
West Brom Preview – Can West Brom improve on south coast?
It’s not been the best of starts for West Brom upon their return to the Premier League as Slaven Bilic’s men have failed to win any of their opening three matches of this new top flight season, losing two and drawing one, which has produced just one point from the possible nine on offer for The Baggies.
An opening day 3-0 loss at home to Leicester City raised early concerns over West Brom’s defending and these were reinforced when The Baggies suffered a heavy 5-2 defeat away from home at Goodison Park against an Everton side who rarely notch five goals at home.
A point at home to Chelsea in last weekend’s 3-3 draw at The Hawthorns saw West Brom off the mark but again, goals continue to be leaked at the back and the west midlands club have now conceded 11 goals in their first three matches which doesn’t bode well and is reminiscent of Fulham’s horror start to their Premier League campaign a couple of seasons ago, which ended in relegation.
