St Johnstone registered all three points in a high-scoring 4-2 win away at Hamilton Academicals last weekend which moved The Saints up into fourth spot in the Scottish top flight and five points behind Aberdeen going into this weekend’s action.
St Johnstone have made a big improvement upon their recent results following a slow start to the new campaign and they’ve now won four of their last five overall with the only blip coming in a defeat at home to Patrick Thistle.
However, wins over Motherwell, Hamilton and Dundee United have assisted The Saints to register a pretty solid home record so far of 3-2-1 11/7 with forwards MacLean and Cummins being the most likely anytime goalscorer for the hosts.
Kilmarnock have been largely inconsistent so far this term and this is reflected by their home and away record so far in this campaign with wins and losses almost in equal measure. A snapshot of their last five matches overall sees Killie recording two wins, two losses and a draw and they are the archetypal ‘hot-and-cold’ team in the top flight.
Kilmarnock’s away record reads an equally inconsistent 2-2-2 7/8 but they are unbeaten in their last three matches on the road with wins at both of the Dundee clubs along with a point at Hearts in a 1-1 draw.
However, the momentum appears to be with the hosts St Johnstone today and I’ll back them to sneak all three points in perhaps a 2-1 win.
