This is the final match of the 2020 Championship League bookmaker tournament. Will it be the title decider that it could so easily be?

The final stage of the tournament is this four-man round-robin group. It features Bingham and Day along with Luca Brecel and Ben Woollaston.

The outcome is simple. Top the group and win the title.

Can Bingham hold his nerve at the final stage?

2020 Masters Champion Stuart Bingham hasn’t been sailing through this tournament. In the opening round, he only took the top spot in the round-robin group thanks to the Highest Break tie-break over Ricky Walden.

In that first group, Bingham took a W1 D2 record, the lone win happening against Jamie Clarke in his opening event. But then the winning touch of the former World Champion deserted him a bit.

But all that mattered in this non-ranking event, which offers the first professional tournament since the Covid-19 lockdown, was progress.

Bingham got that and met Sam Craigie, Harvey Chandler and Ronnie O’Sullivan in the Group Winners’ round-robin stage.

Going into his final match, which was against O’Sullivan, Bingham’s only way to top the group was to beat his opponent 3-0.

Despite having a shockingly poor record against The Rocket, Bingham defied the odds to get his 3-0 scoreline.

That left him topping the group before the final match of that section was played between Craigie and Chandler.

So that was a superb response from Bingham who had opened the group with a loss against Craigie when he appeared to be on the ropes.

Our betting prediction:
Bingham 3-1
13/5

Bingham has yet to make a century break in the tournament. But he holds a positive 5-1 head to head lead over Day. Bingham actually has a positive head to head against the other three players in the Final Group.

Bingham leads the head to head 15-7 over Day. The most recent meeting that they had was in the last edition of the Championship League and Bingham won that 3-2.

It is a three-match winning streak that Bingham is on against Day. Two of those were in the Championship League, Bingham giving up exactly one frame in each of those.

With that in mind the Stuart Bingham 3-1 correct score is a 13/5 option* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 00:12 GMT on Thursday, 11th June 2020)

Can Day take down Bingham?

Welshman Ryan Day topped out his first-round group with a W2 D1 record. That was against Kyren Wilson, Alfie Burden and Chen Feilong. Day won his big match against Wilson 3-1.

That sent Day through to Group B of the Group Winners’ section of the tournament.

He landed in easily the toughest group of the second-stage as it featured David Gilbert, Barry Hawkins and world number one Judd Trump.

It was in his opening match that Day shone, posting a 3-0 win over Trump, defying some massive odds against the scoreline.

Come his final match against Hawkins, Day only had to avoid defeat to win the group.

He did that with a draw, as he had taken previously against David Gilbert. Of the six matches that Day has now played at this tournament it is a W3 D3 record that he has taken so far.

Day reached the semi-finals on his Championship League debut in 2008. The only other time that he has reached the business end of the tournament, was when he finished as runner up in 2017.

In none of his ranking events, this season has Day made it past the second round. Ryan Day has posted three century breaks in the tournament so far.

Day is 11/10 to be the Highest Break scorer in the match* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 00:12 GMT on Thursday, 11th June 2020)

Stuart Bingham vs Ryan Day Betting Advice

So this may well be the tournament decider the way that things are set up. Because this is the final match of the event, almost like a final, it is bound to be tense.

If one of the players goes into the match just needing to avoid winning the match, that will rein in swashbuckling attacking.

So the draw in the match outright in this fixture does have its appeal.

Key Facts – Stuart Bingham vs Ryan Day Betting Tip

  • Stuart Bingham is on a three-match winning streak against Day
  • Stuart Bingham leads the head to head with Day 15-7
  • Ryan Day beat Judd Trump in the last round

However, Bingham does hold a commanding head to head lead and that is something that appeals from a betting perspective. He does have the momentum going against Day.

Two of his last three wins over the Welshman happened in the Championship League as well.

So the short format perhaps plays to the strengths of Bingham, and therefore the Bingham 3-1 correct score, as Day has gotten on the board in each of his last five against Bingham resonates as an option* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 00:12 GMT on Thursday, 11th June 2020).
