Stuttgart – Form at Mercedes-Benz Arena holding them back?

A total of 18 points through thirteen matches represents the club’s best start to a Bundesliga campaign for almost a decade, proving early on that last season’s runners-up from the second tier could make the step up. That being said, Stuttgart (W4 D6 L3) have only managed four wins so far, while a return of one point from their previous two fixtures contributed to them dropping to seventh in the table before Christmas.

Defeat last time out against Wolfsburg, losing 1-0 inside Volkswagen Arena, followed a 2-2 draw here at Mercedes-Benz Arena to Union Berlin, a contest they created the better chances in but required late goals to snatch a share of the spoils. It means The Swabians are without a win since stunning the football world with a ruthless performance on Matchday 11, when dismantling Dortmund 5-1 away from home.

Meanwhile, Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side are still to register a home win this campaign, failing in all six attempts (D4 L2). The club had never previously gone their opening six assignments at home without winning at least once. It is never dull, though. An average of 3.5 goals were scored across those home outings, while both teams have found the back of the net 100 per cent of the time.

RB Leipzig – Nagelsmann has RB firmly in title hunt?

A goalless draw before Christmas with struggling FC Koln provided for a hugely frustrating conclusion to an otherwise satisfactory year. Under Julian Nagelsmann the club would secure third place in the 2019/20 Bundesliga season, and with it another term in the Champions League, a competition they eliminated both Tottenham and Atletico Madrid from en route to a semi-final they were ultimately beaten 3-0 in by PSG.

Die Rotten Bullen will therefore be hoping 2021 continues on this same upward trajectory. Although ground was lost before the winter break, Nagelsmann’s men remain prominent towards the top of the table. Only Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich faring better at this stage, boasting more points through this many games (13) than all but one of their four previous Bundesliga campaigns.

With just the 9 conceded, RB Leipzig (W8 D4 L1) can also boast the sternest rearguard in Germany – theirs a tally at least three better than any other side while leaders Bayern have so far shipped more than twice that amount. It comes as no surprise, then, that they registered a third shutout in as many games last time. Meanwhile, five of their eight Bundesliga victories this season were accompanied by a clean sheet.

Stuttgart Vs RB Leipzig Betting Advice

Just the four competitive meetings have gone before, producing three wins for RB Leipzig and none for Stuttgart, who have an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone when they go seeking a first win at home of the season when the Bundesliga returns from its brief winter slumber. The hosts are winless in 2020/21 at their Mercedes-Benz Arena (D4 L2), with all six seeing both teams among the goals.

Stuttgart Vs RB Leipzig – Key Facts

  • One of four teams yet to win a home Bundesliga game this season, Stuttgart have taken four of a possible 18 points (D4 L2) at home so far with both teams scoring in all six encounters.
  • No Bundesliga side in 2020/21 has allowed fewer goals than RB Leipzig (9 from 13 games), whose eight league victories have consisted of five wins to nil.
  • Three of the past four Bundesliga encounters between the clubs ended with an RB Leipzig victory, while only one featured both teams scoring.

A potential spanner in the works of another high-scoring duel is RB Leipzig’s remarkable defensive record. Julian Nagelsmann overseeing six clean sheets in thirteen league games so far, with three coming in their last three encounters, as the division’s strongest defence really came to the fore before Christmas. They’ve been erratic on their travels, however, winning only twice (W2 D3 L1). That only adds to the appeal of a potential low-scoring stalemate ensuing.
