UEFA Europa Conference League Betting at Betfair

Tottenham – Imperious record in North London to see Spurs home?

Seemingly unthinkable back in August, when the draw for the group stage of the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League was held, that the Premier League’s lone representative and a club that finished as Champions League runners-up as recently as 2018/19, wouldn’t make it beyond the group phase. Yet a record of two wins from five (D1 L2) means there is work to be done heading into the final fixture.

Defeat in Slovenia to NS Mura – who were as big as 20/1 to claim a famous victory, which they duly did via a dramatic late winner – has left Antonio Conte’s men on seven points, the same tally as third place Vitesse. The battle for second likely boiling down to goal difference (Spurs +3, Vitessa +1). In theory, though, it is the English side with the tougher assignment up against the team top of their section.

Rennes are already through, however, and are unlikely to name their strongest XI at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Furthermore, it is at this venue Spurs earned both group victories so far. A 5-1 thrashing of NS Mura and their nervy 3-2 victory over Vitesse helping extend the club’s formidable home record in European competition, with that now nine consecutive home wins, netting 30 times in the process.

Rennes – Ligue 1’s in-form visitors capable of an upset?

Progress onto the Round of 16 has already been wrapped up and was made to look serene. Rennes, who finished bottom of a Champions League section last term that included eventual tournament winners Chelsea, are guaranteed top spot in the group after dropping just four points through five matchdays (W3 D2). Coach Bruno Genesio can therefore afford to rest key players ahead of this final outing in London.

Qualifying without losing would nevertheless be a fine achievement. Their current three-game winning away run in Europe is also worth preserving, 2-1 wins at Mura and Vitesse helping establish an unassailable advantage atop Group G. Meanwhile there is every chance they could dent the host’s push for second; Sunday’s 5-0 rout away to St Etienne made it 11 wins from their past fifteen competitive matches (D3 L1).

Key Stat: Rennes would fail to win only one of the last six away games across all competitions, scoring at least twice in each whilst averaging 2.6 goals per game during this sequence.

Tottenham Vs Rennes Betting Advice

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg helped rescue a point in France when the sides met on Matchday 1 as Spurs twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw. The English side failed to win any of three away group games but retain a 100% record in North London, scoring eight goals but not keeping a clean sheet on either occasion. Meanwhile, Rennes are also perfect on the road, and by the same manner having won 2-1 both times.

Tottenham Vs Rennes– Key Facts:

  • Spurs (W2 D1 L2) are seeking their tenth consecutive European home win that should, in all likelihood, see them progress alongside section winners Rennes (W3 D2).
  • Both Teams To Score delivered a winner in 4/5 Tottenham group games and 2/2 here in England, while the same bet returned 4/5 Rennes matches and 2/2 away.
  • Rennes are also aiming to maintain a winning run. The French side have won each of their last three away from home in Europe, having lost all of the previous seven.

With the visitors assured of their place in the latter stages, we can reasonably expect Bruno Genesio to rotate some first-team personnel. Spurs boss Antonio Conte doesn’t have that same luxury for what is a must-win encounter. Nine straight home victories in Europe, though, would imply the hosts can spare their blushes. Although if this match is anything like their campaign so far, it may not necessarily be straightforward.
