Valencia Preview – Can Valencia challenge for top seven?
Last season’s disappointing 13th place finish in La Liga underlines the struggles that Valencia had in terms of producing a consistent sequence of results in the Spanish top flight and they ended their season winning just two of their last 10 games of last term.
Wins against Real Valladolid and Eiber were outweighed by four defeats and four draws, so the hosts are expected to make a better fist of things this season, starting with Friday night’s fixture against Getafe.
However, results at home last season were pretty steady for Valencia who lost just one of their final 11 games on home turf (v Barcelona) while also winning six of these 11 games, so they stand a chance of gaining a result here on Friday night.
Getafe Preview – Can Getafe avoid relegation battle?
Getafe finished two league places and five points below Valencia at the end of last season’s La Liga campaign but they too struggled for victories in the final run-in to the end of last term, winning just two of their final 13 games.
Victories over Huesca and Levante were poor compensation for losing six of these 13 games while five draws did little to improve their situation but at least these accumulation of points enabled Getafe to finish four points above the relegation zone.
It was Getafe’s poor results away from home though that really let the visitors down though as they secured just one win from their last 11 games on their travels, losing eight of these matches too.
