West Brom Preview – Can West Brom shake off poor start?
With just one win under their belts in all competitions so far this season, West Brom will be desperate to get off the mark in the Premier League when they play host to Chelsea at The Hawthorns in Saturday evening’s kick-off, but The Baggies face another tough encounter despite being at home.
West Brom’s one success to date was a 3-0 home win over newly-promoted League Two outfit, Harrogate Town, in the League Cup but they fell at the next hurdle in the competition, losing on penalties to Championship side, Brentford.
And if early back-to-back defeats in the Premier League weren’t bad enough for Slaven Bilic’s men, the manner of these losses will also be a cause for concern as the hosts have shipped a total of eight goals in their opening two league matches after a 3-0 loss at home to Leicester City and last week’s 5-2 hammering away at Everton.
Chelsea Preview – Can Chelsea pick up easy three points?
Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, was widely criticised for his ‘naive’ tactics shown in their recent 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool but his side duly bounced back in the League Cup with a 6-0 trouncing of Championship outfit, Barnsley, at Stamford Bridge and the visitors will be hoping they can continue their goalscoring spree in the west midlands on Saturday when they take on early strugglers, West Brom.
The Blues had earlier picked up an impressive victory away from home at Brighton on the opening day of the season, winning 3-1 at The AMEX Stadium and they’ll be eyeing off another three points at the expense of The Baggies in this upcoming evening fixture on Saturday.
With just three away wins out of their last 10 matches on their travels in the top flight, there’s plenty of room for improvement for Lampard’s side but having beaten West Brom in each of their last four meetings on the trot (including two away from home), Chelsea look set to add to their points tally here.
