West Ham host another London club on Wednesday night at the London Stadium when they take on Arsenal as the home side look to build upon their unlikely win over title holders Chelsea in Saturday’s early kick-off.
West Ham took all three points in a 1-0 win and their stout defending and overall teamwork made them good value for the points, and confidence will no doubt be high as they take on Arsene Wenger’s side, as they look to claim another scalp of a top six side on home turf.
The win over Chelsea ended a run of eight league matches without a win and they looked a much more cohesive unit under the new manager, David Moyes, so if the creative players such as Lanzini and Arnautovic can stay in the game for longer periods, then they stand a chance against Arsenal.
Onto Arsenal, and they rescued a late, late point away at Southampton in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at St Mary’s Stadium thanks to ‘super-sub’ Olivier Giroud who came off the bench to grab the equaliser. It’s not the first time that Giroud has saved Wenger’s blushes off the bench, and with upcoming games against West Ham and Newcastle United (matches that The Gunners will fancy taking six points from), we could see Giroud perhaps start here tonight.
Arsenal’s form away from home has been patchy to say the least so far this season as they possess a disappointing record of 2-2-4 9/13 with defeats already at Stoke City, Liverpool, Watford and Manchester City, but a win tonight could see Arsenal back in the top four.
Therefore, there’s plenty of incentive for both teams to go for the points tonight, especially for West Ham who’ll be desperate to climb out of the bottom three, and I reckon we could see them both score as a result.
