Wolves can continue great start

Premier League Tips

Saturday 20th October 1500hrs Wolves v Watford Football – England – Premier League  Wolves have done incredibly well since earning promotion and have been one of the best performers of this Premier League season to date. You could argue that it shouldn’t be a surprise or it’s not a massive achievement considering the finances that have helped them reach this stage but compare and contrast to others in recent history who have thrown money around for little in return and you get a sense that a lot of this is down to excellent recruitment, the great coaching of Nuno Espirito Santo and the efforts of a hardworking squad who completely buy into what their boss wants them to do. Their only defeat came on the second weekend of the season and since then they’ve picked up four wins and drawn with both Manchester clubs. It leaves them sitting seventh, two points ahead of Manchester United and just three points off the top four. They’ll undoubtedly have their own expectations and keep those private but there’s no real reason why a top eight finish is not well within their reach.

Having tipped Watford to be relegated in my preview of the Premier League campaign I have to admit I was feeling a touch sheepish when the Hornets won their first four league games and deservedly so. Javi Gracia’s men were very quickly out the traps with some excellent results built on a lot of power and physical strength. As it stands now, though, Watford are beginning to fall away quite dramatically and coming into Saturday’s game on a winless run of four games where they have picked up just one points. That in itself wouldn’t be too much of a concern but we know from past campaigns that Watford can be a streaky team and the manner of their 4-0 loss at home to Bournemouth before the international break would have been concerning. Gracia has had that time to determine how best to approach this game of course so it will be interesting to see if there is any change to the preferred 4-4-2 system that has been used to this point.

Wolves v Watford Betting Tip

Few would have predicted that this fixture would see a clash between two teams in the top 10 halfway through October and I wouldn’t have been one of them. Depending on results it could well be the last time we say that as Watford have hit that rocky spell and a defeat on Saturday combined with teams below them winning this weekend would see them continue to fall down the table and I think that’s the most likely outcome. Wolves have been excellent this season and whilst they are not the most prolific of scorers they certainly create plenty of opportunities and have one of the best functioning and most balanced midfields in the league. Watford were disappointing against Bournemouth and there’s evidence to suggest that they may well be starting to hit a poor and extended run of form – take the home team as a confident selection.
