A great betting feature which is available over at Betfair is the Each Way Edge which is available on horse racing. This is something that is unique to the operator and it is a tool that allows you to take some control over your each way bets.
What does the Betfair Each Way Edge do?
The feature allows you to change the terms of your each way bet. Note that this is before you place a bet you cannot do it afterwards. What it allows you to do is add extra places which will afford you extra coverage on your selection. You will pay for it through a small reduction in the odds.
The alternative to doing that would be to actually cut down the number of places in an each way bet if you are feeling a little more confident about your selection. This will pay you with a small increase in the odds.
Control your terms
So basically you have total control over the number of places that you want on your horse racing selection. This is naturally only available to registered Betfair customers and this is only available on the sportsbook and not the Betfair exchange.
How to use the feature
Browse through the horse racing cards and pick a selection. Perhaps it is a 3/1 option at Chepstow for example. You will select the odds on the horse as normal which will then put that selection in your betting slip. That is the point at which you will see if the Each Way Edge is available.
If it is, you will see that you have the option to raise or lower the number of places on that selection as an each way bet. So if the standard is 1/5 odds for 3 places, you may want to add an extra place because you are certain that your selection will be in the top four, and so you change the number of places being paid.
For example, the odds may slip down to 13/5 for your selection because of having put the extra place on it. You can play around with the options of how many places that you want to take before striking the bet.
So if your selection came home fourth then you will have been pretty glad that you decided to take full control of your bet and take the Each Way Edge of adding the extra place on your selection. It is a very simple and straightforward tool to use and it adds a nice extra dimension to your horse racing betting.
The number of runners in a race could be a determining factor as to how much you will be able to increase or decrease the number of places. You cannot use the Each Way Edge On multiples and any bets elected at the SP won’t be reliable either for the feature. You can though still use the Betfair Cash Out option on any selections which have had the Each Way Edge applied to them.
