Betfred purchase MoPlay customer database and are set to release funds

Betfred purchase offers former MoPlay customers access to funds

Bookmaker News

Some good news for former MoPlay customers came this week. It was announced on Monday that operator Betfred have purchased the UK-facing customer database from MoPlay.

Betfred to return stakes

According to an email sent out by Betfred, they will be returning stakes that had been placed on open bets on MoPlay accounts. Importantly the email stated that “will be given the opportunity to have their cash balances honoured by Betfred” for customers in the UK and Ireland.

That was after an agreement between Betfred’s holding company Petfre (Gibraltar) Ltd and Addison Global who own MoPlay.

The upshot is apparently that former MoPlay customers can register with Betfred. In doing so, they would get access to funds from MoPlay accounts. Betfred stated that further instructions about the process and registration would be sent out this week.

Addison Global’s troubles

Earlier this year the Gibraltar Licensing Authority suspended Addison Global’s licence.. The following day the British Gambling Commission slapped the operator with a suspension as well.

Addison Global stated that they had expected to receive a lot more backing than they actually did. They offered an apology to customers who had been left in limbo:

“We apologise that it has taken so long to achieve this result for you, but it was important to ensure that the operator who we came to an agreement with was highly reputable and met strict data protection and privacy standards,” MoPlay said.

In February MoPlay customers had been allowed to process withdrawals from their account. However, on February 22nd operations at MoPlay stopped because of insolvency. All withdrawals ceased.

Addison Global saw a wave of resignations just before the Gibraltar Licensing Authority announced MoPlays suspension on February 19th, 2020.
