German Masters Snooker Betting Favourite – Judd Trump

He is the reigning German Masters Snooker champion and the tournament outright for this year’s event.

We are talking about JUDD TRUMP of course, with the World Number One lining up as the 5/2 outright favourite in snooker betting* (odds recorded at 06:43 GMT on January 26th, 2022 at 888Sport)

Trump is the top seed at the event and gets a break as well after receiving a walkover in the first round.

Surprisingly, he has been on a bit of a barren title run in ranking events. Trump has not taken a tournament crown this season.

The last title that he did win, was picked up at the non-ranking Champion of Champion tournament in November last year.

As far as the German Masters goes specifically, Trump is seeking a title hat trick at the event. So he has a clear affinity with the tournament.

Will he do it again? He beat Jack Lisowski 9-2 in last year’s Final.

Main Contenders German Masters Snooker Betting

Along with Trump, who are likely to be the main contenders at the German Masters Snooker 2022?

A clear danger should be Australian NEIL ROBERTSON who meets Ricky Walden in the first round.

Robertson took the 2021 English Open title in Milton Keynes in November last year and recently won the prestigious Masters for the second time in his career.

That was a big success for Robertson who has now taken at least two titles in each of the last three seasons (ranking and non-ranking combined).

Robertson is just thriving again even though he hasn’t quite had as much playing time as some others.

His best previous finish was as the runner-up to Trump in the 2020 Final.

Another obvious name to look out for in the draw is MARK SELBY, who is the second seed at the German Masters Snooker 2022.

That is important because that means that he is in the opposite half of the draw to both Robertson and Trump.

Selby has been a little off the pace this season, only having been past the third round in six of seven ranking events.

He will be disappointed with another quarter-final exit at the Masters recently, but he’s never one to underestimate.

Selby is a former German Masters winner, taking the title in 2015. He hasn’t been past the second round in four appearances since, however.

German Masters Snooker Outsiders

The above are the big three in the field, so we start dipping into the realm of double-figure snooker betting options now.

Incidentally, there is no Ronnie O’Sullivan at the event as he lost in the first qualifying round.

The way the draw has panned out, the easier half is clearly the bottom section. There are only two top-ten players there (Selby and Shaun Murphy).

SHAUN MURPHY doesn’t have a bad track record at the tournament, having been a losing finalist once and banking a semi-final place on three other occasions.

Murphy has been well below his best this season, but it’s not an unreasonable draw ahead of him.

KYREN WILSON took the German Masters title in 2019, and he is back in the draw as the 5th seed.

If things go the way as expected he would have to go through both Neil Robertson and Judd Trump on the way to the Final which is a tough task.

The 2021 Masters champion YAN BINGTAO could be another one to watch as he enters the main draw for only the third time.

He made the quarter-finals on his German Masters debut in 2017. His other appearance ended in a Second Round exit a couple of years later.

Bingtao has come a long way since then and has reached at least the quarter-final in three of his eight ranking tournament appearances this season.

German Masters Snooker Prediction

Getting down to brass tacks here, the clear front-runner is JUDD TRUMP, who could be on the brink of creating some history.

Defending snooker titles is not easy, but he is lining up a shot at making it three in a row at the German Masters.

However, because ranking titles have avoided him, NEIL ROBERTSON at 5/1 could be the alternative way to go* (odds recorded at 06:43 GMT on January 26th, 2022 at 888Sport).

The ‘Thunder From Down Under’ should be on top of the world at the moment after winning the Masters.

He could potentially take that momentum forward.

If we are looking for a longer-priced option then that really has to be someone from the bottom half of the draw.

That’s where Trump and Robertson aren’t.

So the pick there is going to be YAN BINGTAO at 14/1* (odds recorded at 06:43 GMT on January 26th, 2022 at 888Sport).

He still has a lot of potentials to unlock in the game, but he’s not a bad selection because the biggest challenge in his way is a slightly off-key Mark Selby.
