Can Wade make it past Beaton?

8th seed James Wade looked sharp in his opening match of the tournament, which was in the second round. The Machine was up against fellow Englishman Ritchie Edhouse and in what was a high-scoring match, Wade came through in straight sets. He just had the clinical edge and composure on the night to produce the goods. Wade’s best efforts a televised event this season was at the Masters where he was a losing finalist. In the last edition of the World Championships, he dropped at the fourth round stage. He does overall have a great record at the tournament without having ever won it. Since 2008 he has had three semifinals and five quarter final finishes.

Can Beaton beat The Machine?

Steve Beaton, aka the Bronzed Adonis, seems to have been around forever. He is a former BDO World Championship titleholder, having earned the crown back in 1996. Since his move to the PDC in 2002, he has never before made it past the fourth round in the World Championships. In fact, he has only gotten to the fourth round once in 18 attempts. So he’s justifiably the underdog here. He did break his slump of having suffered back to back 2nd round exits at the World by beating Kyle Anderson in this year’s second round. That was a 2-1 success for Beaton. The Bronze Adonis is going to be up against it much more in this one.

James Wade v Steve Beaton Prediction and tip

Wade is unlikely to be quaking in his boots at the prospect of this fixture. The Machine should be untroubled in this one and should justify his favouritism. Wade -2.5 handicap at 7/4* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 21st, 2019 at 3:28 pm)
