Premiership Rugby Preview – 3.00 pm kick off

Newcastle suffered yet another defeat for the season last weekend when they went down against Exeter. The Falcons are rooted to the foot for the table and that doesn’t look as if it is going to change anytime soon. Worcester kick off third from bottom and will be looking to put more distance between themselves and the bottom side.

Newcastle v Worcester Preview

Newcastle have only claimed the three Premiership wins this season and last weekend they were taken out 35-17 by Exeter, a match in which the Falcons were heavy underdog for. It is a five-match losing streak that Newcastle are currently on in the Premiership and they just don’t seem to have enough in any department to really threaten to put together a good run of form.

Their last league win was back at the start of December when they edged a two-point margin over Northampton. The Falcons have conceded at least 30 points in each of their last four league outings, so it hasn’t been getting any better for them really.

Head to Head

Newcastle squeezed out a 23-20 win away at Worcester back in September. That was their third win in their last four games against Worcester as well. So they have a bit of head to head form going for them. The Falcons have won their last two on home soil against the Warriors in the top flight.

Worcester are third from bottom going into the weekend with a comfortable seven-point cushion over the Falcons. So even a slip up wouldn’t see them overtaken by the Falcons. But they will be looking for a boost though in trying to make some kind of headway up the table. There is the potential of catching up with Leicester, the team directly above them.

Worcester took a win over Leicester last weekend in fact to close the gap on the Tigers. They have won three of their last five games in all competition, but the win over Leicester saw them recover from having conceded almost 50 points against Harlequins in their previous match.

Newcastle v Worcester Prediction

Well, this should be a tense battle. The previous meeting this season was and it’s probably worth investing a small handicap line for it. The key difference is that Worcester, in a limited way, have a scoring threat that Newcastle don’t. Worcester to cover a +4 margin at 10/11 looks a decent fit* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 26th, 2019 at 7:07 pm).
