Northern Ireland v Estonia Preview

The Irish have been struggling for form having lost four of their last six games played (W1 D1). They struggled in the Nations League in their group against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Austria. The Irish didn’t get a point from their four matches, scoring just twice. The two goals were at home though, so that’s a positive here. Northern Ireland have won two of their last three played on home soil, beating South Korea and Israel in friendly matches. Home and away, Northern Ireland have failed to score in three of their last four games played. They last met Estonia in the Euro 2012 qualifiers and lost 2-1 at home against them.

Key-Facts – Northern Ireland v Estonia

  • Northern Ireland are W3 L1 against Estonia
  • The Irish have scored one goal in their last four games
  • Estonia are undefeated in their last three away games

Estonia didn’t have fun in the Nations League either, finishing bottom of their section to drop down into League D. They took just a W1 D1 L4 record from their six games played against Finland, Hungary and Greece. Estonia lost two of their three away games in the tournament without scoring a goal. Their form has actually improved a little bit as they have gone W2 D1 in their last three played (beating Greece and Finland) and have lost just one of their last five played. The two wins in that sequence happened in away games as well, so that could suggest that the Irish will get something of a challenge here. Estonia have failed to score in three of their last five away games.

Northern Ireland v Estonia Predictions

Northern Ireland to win: We can only think that Northern Ireland are going to find a way through this test. It’s likely to be a low scoring game but taking the home side to win to nil is a reasonable proposition at even money* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on March 18th, 2019 at 6:26 p.m.).
