Recently operator Paddy Power ran a huge competition in their Paddy Power Rewards Club, and from that, two lucky punters each won a £10,000 Free Bet from the mega-prize draw. The punters had qualified by placing five £10 sports bets (or £50 in slot games) in a single week.
One of the lucky winners of a mammoth free bet was a punter from York who used the stake on a Leicester and Chelsea double last weekend in the Premier League. If it had come up then it would have pocketed him a cool £16,000, but the curse of the early kick off struck and Leicester were torn apart at home by Crystal Palace. Chelsea did win their game over Southampton, which was no consolation for the punter.
The other winner was a man from London who threw the whole stake on Tottenham becoming the first side to beat Manchester City this season in the top flight, at odds of 5/1. We know how that turned out as the challenge from Spurs just never got up and running in the game at the Etihad. So with both of the free bet wagers unsuccessful, and as stakes not being able to be kept from free bets, the excitement fell flat.
However, Paddy Power didn’t want to leave the punters empty handed, so the bookmaker stumped up the £10,000 stake for each of them anyway, in cold hard cash on their accounts.
