Portugal News and Form

Portugal have taken a draw in each of their last three competitive games. They have drawn four of their last seven overall, home and away, both competitive and friendly (W3). They didn’t utilize Cristiano Ronaldo in the Nations League but he was back for them against Ukraine in their Euro 2020 qualifier on Friday. He couldn’t lift them to a home win though, the game ending in a 0-0 draw. Portugal have scored just one goal in their last three games now.

Five of their last seven have ended up under 2.5 goals. They are a side which doesn’t lose too often, with them currently on an unbeaten run since losing to Uruguay in the round of sixteen at the 2018 World Cup. That loss is just one of two from them in their last sixteen fixtures. On home soil, Portugal have drawn three of their last four at home and are undefeated in their last six home games since a friendly defeat against the Netherlands in March last year.

  • Serbia are unbeaten in seven
  • Serbia have six clean sheets in eight away games

Serbia News and Form

Serbia will present themselves as tough opposition to Portugal. They earned a 1-1 draw out in Germany in an international friendly last week. That was, to be fair, against an understrength Germany side. But still, that leaves Serbian without defeat in their last seven games played now. They did win their Nations League group ahead of Romania, Montenegro, Lithuania, not losing a game.

They didn’t concede in any of their three away games in the group, so there’s every chance that they will keep this tight. Serbia are actually undefeated in their last eight games outside of their home country. They took six clean sheets in that sequence of away games as well. Serbia did win their World Cup 2018 qualification group ahead of Ireland, Wales and Austria. This is their toughest away game in the group and they would probably be delighted to start with a point from it.

Portugal v Serbia Predictions

Draw: The draw looks a pretty solid proposition for this one. Portugal have been drawing a lot of games recently and Serbia are no pushover. The visitors would well show up and put on a good defensive effort to get a point. Draw.
