Can Evans make a positive start?

There is a bit of pressure on Ricky Evans in this one who is ranked 32nd in the draw. His record at the PDC Darts World Championship won’t exactly ease his nerves. He has failed to get past the second round in any of his last four attempts. His last two exits have been first-round failures. But given his ranking, he does get the second round start. He did claim his second European Tour final appearance this year, losing to Darul Gurney at the 2019 German Darts Championship. He made a run to the quarters of the European Championships in October as well, which was a superb effort.

McGeeney can cause an upset

The Gladiator may rattle Evans in this one. It looks as if it could be an evenly-matched contest. Towards the end of the year, McGeeney took a couple of last sixteen places in Players Championship tournaments. McGeeney made the switch to the PDC this year along with Glen Durrant. That’s gone a little unnoticed because of the successes of Duzza. But back on the BDO, McGeeney was a two-time runner-up at the Winmau World Masters and once, back in 2018 at the World Darts Championships to Durrant. So this is his debut on the PDC World Championship stage and he opened with a comprehensive win over Canada’s Matt Campell in the first round.

Ricky Evans v Mark McGeeney Prediction and tip

There should be better darts from McGeeney to come, now that first-round nerves are out of the way. His three dart average should go up and because he’s had his eye in, will be a threat in this one. There’s no reason why the underdog cannot have his day. Mark McGeeney 6/5 outright* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 19th, 2019 at 8:48 pm)
