Serbia News and Form – Can Serbia beat Portugal?

Serbia have taken a W1 D1 L1 record from their opening action in the Euro 2020 qualifiers. It all started for them with a very good away point in Portugal. So if now back on home soil Serbia can take three points against Portugal that would leave them in such a strong qualification position. However, after that opening point against Portugal, Serbia crashed to a 5-0 loss against Ukraine before beating Lithuania. So it has been unpredictable stuff at the end of the day from them. In their four games since the end of their Nations League campaign, Serbia have gone W1 D2 L1.

In their Nations League campaign they produced a very strong record of W4 D2. They topped the group, so have a playoff spot if they can’t get automatic qualification to Euro 2020. Their 4-1 win over Lithuania in this qualifying group snapped a three-match winless streak of form that they were on in such matches (D1 L2). They really don’t have a great deal of form going in European Championship qualifiers, taking just three wins in their last thirteen. Serbia are W2 D1 L3 in their last six qualifying home matches.

Serbia v Portugal Head to Head

Portugal News and Form – Can Portuguese earn crucial away win?

Reining Nations League Portugal at least have cushion too of a guaranteed playoff place in the Euro 2020 qualifiers if they don’t make the top two in this group. This qualification campaign has started with back to back draws against Ukraine and Serbia. So that leaves the Portuguese needing to start picking up the pace. A loss here would be pretty damaging. It would leave them five points behind Serbia and with Ukraine running away with the group, Portugal would be in trouble.

So the pressure is real for them out in Serbia. Portugal are undefeated since their 2018 World Cup campaign came to an end. In their ten games since then, Portugal are W5 D5. It is a four-match winning streak away from home that they are currently on in European Championship qualifiers with all four of the wins in that sequence coming by a one-goal margin. In their current form, all but one of Portugal’s last five games have finished under 2.5 goals. Their next qualification matches are both away from home.

Serbia v Portugal Predictions

Portugal to win: There is not going to be a wide-open expansive match going down in this one. In fact, it looks as if it is going to be a really tight affair. There have not been many goals flying around in Portugal’s recent games. They should win this though. Away win in a low scoring fixture.
