Snooker International Championship 2016 Betting Preview & Winner Odds

Trump and Robertson value for China

Snooker Betting

There is more huge snooker betting heading our way with the seventh ranking event of the season, which is the International Championship. This one is hosted out in Daqing China and the week long event will culminate on October 30th. This tournament has a short but interesting history, because it was only launched in the 2012/13 season and it became the fifth event held in China for ranking purposes. It was launched with the same ranking points as the UK Championship and therefore became known as the first overseas “major”.

John Higgins goes back as the reigning champion but he is down the pecking order a bit in this one at a 16/1 quote. With the tournament having run just the four seasons, no-one has managed to land back to back titles at the International Championship and no player has been to consecutive finals either. In such a competitive field, there will be work for Higgins to do in this one that he may not be able to get through. Higgins beat David Gilbert in last season’s final. The winner of the International Championship will get £125,000 prize money and there is an extra £1,000 floating around for the highest televised break.

You are looking at a field with all of the big guns prowling around, from Ronnie O’Sullivan, to Judd Trump and Mark Selby. Trump is a former champion along with Ding Junhui and Ricky Walden, but it is O’Sullivan who is heading up the market at a price of 7/2 to win the tournament outright. He has done little in way of competitive snooker this season though and was upset in the English Open recently by underdog Chris Wakelin. The Rocket will remain a legend in the game, but the mental motivation isn’t there as a serious challenger any more.

So it is worth skipping past him in the market and Trump looks to be the one with value. He made it all the way to the final of the English Open where he lost out to Liang Wenbo, but at least that puts him in good form. Snooker is wide open at the moment and with Mark Selby, Ding Junhui and Neil Robertson not getting anywhere at all at the English Open, it may just be worth tipping with the form of Trump who is an 11/2 shot in the outright winner market.

Snooker International Championship 2016 Draw

The tournament kicks off with a round of 64 and right through to the quarter final matches will be the best of 11 frame. The Semi final then goes up to the best of 17 frames and the final itself the best of 19 frames. Judd Trump goes in the second quarter of the draw and there is little to oppose him there. He has actually landed a pretty easy half of the draw overall really. Opposing him in the semi finals could be someone like Ricky Walden or Chris Wakelin but there is not a tremendous amount of threats in there.

The bottom half of the draw though is stacked. The Third quarter hosts Ronnie O’Sullivan with Stephen Maguire and Stuart Bingham knocking around that quarter as well, with Neil Robertson running as favourite to take the fourth quarter. If Roberston could be trusted after his English Open misfire then he would look like some decent value because he has a good draw in his quarter ahead of him. There is a decent value of 23/10 on a player from the Third Quarter going on to win the title.

Snooker International Championship 2016 Predictions

It is more likely than not that there will be a first time winner in the tournament, considering that this is just the fifth edition of the championship. It’s hard to read a lot into this one because of the major players all falling early at the English Open. That was a tournament which was just the best of seven frames over the early rounds, and this one reverts back to more of a grind than a straight shoot out. So the big guns are likely to come back into play. Because of the draw Neil Robertson actually looks a decent flutter, but Judd Trump, all on his own really in the top half of the draw has to take some supremacy in this one.
