Standard Liege vs Arsenal Betting Tips – UEFA Europa League, 12th December 17.55pm

Arsenal still have a little bit of work to do in the UEFA Europa League group stage. The Gunners will book their spot in the last 32 with a point against Standard Liege at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne on Thursday night. Arsenal are top of Group F on ten points, with Liege third on seven and Eintracht Frankfurt sitting second on nine. Can the London side join the likes of Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Round of 32?

Standard Liege News and Form – Can the Reds cause an upset?

Michel Preud’homme’s Standard Liege are still very much in the mix for a top two place in Group F. The Belgian First Division A outfit are two points behind Frankfurt and three points adrift of the Gunners going into the final day.

Liege have been very competitive in a very tough group, winning two, losing two and drawing one so far. The Belgian side picked up a win over Vitoria de Guimaraes in their opening game, but only four points from a possible 12 has followed.

Standard Liege are incredibly strong on their own patch. This season, only Mechelen have won at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne. The Reds have won both of their Europa League matches at home, seeing off Guimaraes and Eintracht. Can they make it hat-trick of European home wins on Thursday night?

Key-Facts – Standard Liege vs Arsenal

  • Arsenal’s win over West Ham on Monday was their first victory since October
  • The Gunners have taken just one point from their last two Europa League fixtures

Arsenal News and Form – Gunners to get the job done in Belgium?

Arsenal picked up their first victory since Unai Emery’s departure on Monday, beating West Ham United 3-1 at the London Stadium in a Premier League encounter. That was the Gunners’ first victory in any competition since beating Guimaraes at the Emirates in the Europa League way back in October.

Arsenal were the dominant force in Group F in the early rounds, starting with successive wins over Eintracht, Liege and Guimaraes, scoring ten and conceding two to take full control of the group. However, they have taken only one point from the last two, drawing 1-1 in Guimaraes and losing 2-1 at home to Frankfurt, which proved to be Emery’s last match in charge of the club.

Arsenal were the strong favourites to go through from the group, and Freddie Ljungberg’s boys should see the job through on Thursday. The Premier League team are the 19/20 favourites to get the win.

Standard Liege vs Arsenal Predictions

Arsenal win: The Gunners were superb in the second half against West Ham on Monday, with three quickfire second-half goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealing a comfortable 3-1 victory.

Arsenal will be buoyed by that much-needed win, and I can see them following that up with another victory on the road this Thursday. There’s good value in the away win and both teams to score at 12/5.

Young Brazilian Martinelli has had a great first season at the Emirates so far, netting eight times in 14 league and cup appearances. Three of those have come in the Europa League, and the 18-year-old is priced at 6/5 to score anytime in this one.
