Sweden News and Form – Will Sweden beat Norway again?

It was an easy 4-0 road win that Sweden claimed in midweek against the Faroe Islands. The Swedes scored all of their goals in the first half and then just eased back. It leaves them at W3 D1 L1 in their qualification group now. If they can secure three points at home against Norway on the weekend, that will really see them drive themselves towards a top-two finish. It would put them five points clear of the Norwegians with four games to play.

In their last six games played Sweden are W3 D2 L1 and their big win over the Faroe Islands was the third time in four games that Sweden have scored at least three goals. The Swedes are in pretty good shape in home European Championship qualifiers as well. They have won each of their last four such matches.

Sweden have won all but one of their last seven home qualifiers (L1) so the stats certainly point to them coming up with three points. The one defeat in that seven-match sequence was against Austria in 2015 which remains Sweden’s only defeat in a home qualifier since 2003. There is a very important three points up on offer for them in this one. Can they get them?

Key-Facts – Sweden v Norway

  • Sweden beat the Faroe Islands 4-0 on Thursday
  • Norway have won one of their last four away qualifiers
  • The Norwegians secured a 2-0 home win over Malta in midweek

Norway News and Form

Norway claimed a relatively comfortable three points in midweek as well. They claimed a 2-0 home success against Malta. The Norwegians scored both of their goals in the win in the first half of the game. It leaves Norway on a W2 D2 L1 record in the group at the moment. The wins that they have secured were against the weaker opposition in the group, the Faroe Islands and Malta.

They were defeated by Spain and the draws came against Sweden and Romania. Norway have at least scored at least two goals in each of their last four fixtures. However, there is a concern for them in defence because it has been a bit disappointing in their bigger matches in the group. They don’t have much form going away from home in European Championship qualifiers either. They have taken a W1 L3 record in their last four such matches. The lone win in that sequence was out at the Faroe Islands. They are going to be going through a tough game on Sunday.

Sweden v Norway Predictions

Sweden to win: The Swedes should be able to collect the home win in this one as Norway haven’t looked good enough away from home. There is likely to be goals in this, so home win and both teams to score is a good proposition.
