Hearts take on Rangers at Tynecastle in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup, hoping to reproduce a famous victory over the Glasgow side in the league last month.

Hearts Preview – Jambos hoping to repeat last month’s shock victory

Hearts have only managed one victory since beating Rangers at Tynecastle a month ago and that was at League One Falkirk in that last round of the Scottish Cup.

German Daniel Stendl is still dividing opinion in Edinburgh as he seeks to move his side out of the relegation places in the Premiership but the Jambos are now six points behind 10th-placed St Mirren and fans are looking to the Scottish Cup to draw some comfort.

Hearts face a significant few days as the meet city rivals Hibernian next week and travel to high-flying Motherwell a few days later. Defeat in both of those games could just about seal their fate but they could have Northern Ireland international Liam Boyce back to face Rangers – he scored the winner in the league fixture last month.

Aaron Hickey and Peter Haring are again likely to miss out and Conor Washington could replace Uche Ikpeazu from the team which started the 2-2 draw with Hamilton two weeks ago. Steven Naismith will again captain the side that has yet to beat any Premiership team but Rangers since Stendl took over.

Rangers Preview – Gers out to prove they’ve turned the corner

It’s four years since Rangers last reached the Scottish Cup Final and they haven’t won the competition since 2009.

They’ve already lost one cup final to Celtic this season and have fallen way behind their arch-rivals in the Premiership so this may be the best chance of ending their search for silverware, though they are through to the last 16 of the Europa League after a brilliant performance in Portgual in midweek.

Steven Gerrard was fulsome in his praise for his side’s defensive discipline against Braga which earned them a 1-0 win on the night and a 4-2 aggregate victory.

Rangers have not been noted their resilience in recent weeks – they’ve kept only two clean sheets in their last seven matches and have been a model of inconsistency since the winter break – but it’s easy to forget that they have some quality players at the club.

The manager took a gamble by playing Ryan Kent against Braga but it paid off as the midfielder came up with the goal. Further changes are expected Hearts, however, with Alfredo Morelos available and Joe Aribo likely to come back into the side. Andy Halliday and Nikola Katic could also be recalled.

Trends – Hearts vs Rangers Betting Tips

  • Both teams have scored in the last six meetings between these sides at Tynecastle
  • Rangers have not won either game against Hearts at Tynecastle in the league this season but have won both fixtures at Ibrox with an 8-0 aggregate
  • Rangers have kept only two clean sheets in their last seven

League positions point to a Rangers victory but the visitors had a hard game in the Europa League on Wednesday so Steven Gerrard will have to shuffle his squad.
The teams actually have a similar recent record in all competitions and Hearts will be up for this tie having beaten the Glasgow side in the league recently.
