Motherwell Preview – Can ‘Well end winless run in top flight?

Motherwell have failed to win any of their last two matches in the Scottish top flight which was a 2-1 loss away at Kilmarnock followed by a 0-0 draw at home with Dundee United but three previous wins to date in the Premiership have helped lift Motherwell up into an early position in the top six, sitting in 5th place.

Victories gained over St Mirren 1-0, Aberdeen 3-2 and a 1-0 win against Livingston have given the hosts a decent start to this new Scottish Premiership season and they’ll be up against fellow top six contenders, Hearts, on Sunday afternoon with the home side looking to conitnue their encouraging start.

Motherwell also posted back to back wins towards the end of last season by way of victories over Ross County and Sunday’s visitors, Hearts, but the bigger picture shows Motherwell have tended to suffer from an inconsistent streak which has held the hosts back as they have collected just six wins out of their last 24 matches overall.

Having also won just three of their last 11 home games at Fir Park as well, Motherwell look to have their work cut out as they’ve also suffered defeats to Celtic, Ross County, Rangers and St Johnstone as well within this period and the home side have struggled to put any sort of meaningful sequence of results together.

Motherwell will be without injured defender, Jake Carroll, who is sidelined with an injury but otherwise, ‘Well manager, Steven Hammell, may be tempted to stick with the same side that earned a point against Dundee United last time out.

Hearts Preview – Can Jambos transfer European form?

A midweek 2-0 win away from home at Latvian outfit, Rigas, handed Hearts an important win in the group stages of the Europa Conference League following last week’s heavy 4-0 loss at home to Turkish club, Istanbul Basaksehir, and the visitors will now turn their attentions to the domestic Premiership scene on Sunday afternoon.

On the domestic front, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag of results for visitors Hearts as they have picked up three wins in the shape of victories over Ross County, Dundee United and St Johnstone respectively while also being dealt defeats against Celtic and Livingston, both of which were away from home.

The bigger picture shows Hearts have suffered just five defeats out of their last 17 matches overall in the Scottish Premiership though, and this gives The Jambos a decent chance of claiming some sort of result on the road at Motherwell at Fir Park, especially as they’ve also produced eight wins within this period as well.

Hearts will need to address recent results away from home though if the visitors are to make a sustained challenge for a top six finish in the Premiership as the away side have failed to win any of their last five matches on the road, suffering four losses in the process at Celtic (twice), Motherwell and Livingston.

Hearts are set to be without midfielder Beni Baningime and forward Liam Boyce who are both sidelined with injuries, while defensive duo Craig Halkett and Kye Rowles are both rated as doubtful for The Jambos.

Forward, Lawrence Shankland, is Hearts’ leading goalscorer with 3 goals to date and is the visitors’ danger man up front.
