Celtic Preview – Will Celtic make continue their recent good run and make it five straight wins in the league?

Neil Lennon has been pleased with how his Celtic team have performed in recent weeks and on the face of it, you can understand why. Having won just one of their first six games of 2021, the current champions have reeled off four straight wins – and they have been much needed. Trailing Rangers by 18 points with this their final game in hand means the league title is all but gone but they strengthened their hold on second spot and that brings with it Champions League qualification next season.

It’s unlikely Lennon will be still be head coach for the new campaign with an overhaul of the footballing structure at the club set.

Lennon’s praise of his team’s form is understandable but the performances themselves have not been great. Celtic continue to play in flashes and it’s moments of individual brilliance which often sees them through. Fortunately for Lennon there is a lot of quality in the squad and that is often enough in these domestic games.
Odsonne Edouard is the perfect example of that. His double on Sunday means he now has 15 leagues goals for the season (eight in his last six matches) and is find the form we’ve come to expect from him. Unfortunately for Celtic supporters, he’s another who is unlikely to be at the club beyond the end of this season.

Aberdeen Preview – Are Aberdeen able to put their recent struggles behind them to spring a surprise in Glasgow?

Aberdeen’s dire run continued at the weekend (as predicted in this preview) with a goalless draw against St Mirren. It means they have now taken just three points in their last five games and have failed to score in all of them. Derek McInnes has been backed once again by the board but there is definitely some doubt whether he will remain in charge after the completion of this season.

The aim for McInnes and Aberdeen remains third place – a race in which they trail Hibs by four points and having played the same number of matches.

McInnes will be hoping that the visit to Glasgow sparks a revival for his Dons team but it’s not a place where they have enjoyed a lot of success of late. A 1-0 victory at Celtic Park on the final day of the 2017/18 season is the only time they’ve taken points home with them in their last 13 visits.

You have to go all the way back to December for the last time Aberdeen won on their travels in the Scottish Premiership. That was a 2-0 win against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
