Celtic Preview – Will Celtic head into the top of the table clash on the back of a win?

The Hoops will know how many points they sit behind leaders Rangers when they kick-off in this one. Their rivals will have already played their match earlier that day and will see them sit either four, five or seven points ahead of Ange Postecoglou’s men. The Aussie coach will not be overly concerned and knows that either way his team will have to continue their winning form as we approach the second Glasgow derby of the season.

Wednesday’s win away to Hearts feels like it could be a crucial three points come the end of the campaign but they have to back that up with a win here and ensure that they are no more than four points adrift come the final whistle.

Our betting prediction
Celtic to score in both halves
4/6
(odds taken 2000 GMT, Thursday 13 January )

The win was Celtic’s 13th in their last 15 games and extended their unbeaten run in the Premiership to 16 games – a run which started with a 1-1 draw against United. Bayer Leverkusen remain the only team to have beaten them since September in any competition. The signs are positive but the fact is they still remain behind in their pursuit of the title.

Reo Hatate scored his first goal in just his second appearance and with his countrymen Daizen Maeda and Kyogo missing for at least the next two games, will be required to keep up his fast start.

Dundee United Preview – Can United build on their midweek victory to frustrate opponents for a second time here?

Tam Courts will have breathed a huge sigh of relief on Wednesday following a come-from-behind win against Ross County. Dundee United had lost their last six league games and failed to win in the Premiership since a 1-0 win at home to Aberdeen. Their were some concerns that had they lost that game they could be pulled into the relegation fight.

As it is, they climbed back into seventh spot and are now 11 points above city rivals Dundee with the derby to come on Tuesday. And a further two points clear of bottom place St Johnstone.

As much as it was their first league win since November, it was a second successive victory following a hard-fought win away to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup the week before. Courts will hope that they are beginning to build some momentum and restoring some confidence following those successive defeats.

There’s no doubt that the January arrival of Tony Watt has had a positive impact at Tannadice, too. Watt – who started his career with Celtic – is the league’s top scorer and although still looking for his first goal for his new club, provides a bigger threat and more creativity than was there before.

Celtic vs Dundee United Betting Advice

This will be the third meeting between the sides this season and the second at Celtic Park. The initial game here proved to be frustrating for the hosts who were held to a 1-1 draw and a deserved point for United. It was a different story in the last game between the sides at the start of last month. Celtic turned in one of their best performances of the campaign with the 3-0 score flattering Courts’ men.

Key Facts –  Celtic vs Dundee United Betting Tip

  • Celtic are looking for a 13th win in their last 15 league matches to keep the pressure on leaders
  • Dundee United won their first league game in eight attempts on Wednesday
  • United held their opponents to a 1-1 draw on their last visit to Celtic Park back in September

The game here back in September was the first in 12 which has went below three goals between the two at Celtic Park so over 2.5 will interest many. With United carrying more threat and scoring in four of their last five games, back over 2.5 goals and both teams to score.
