Celtic took a massive step towards regaining the Premiership title with a derby win last weekend but they have to follow that up here against a St Johnstone team who are finding form at just the right time.

Celtic – Can Celtic continue their excellent run as they look to close in on the title?

Last weekend’s win away to Rangers felt like a really big result for Celtic and their hopes of winning a 10th title in the last 11 years. Ange Postecoglou’s men came back from a goal down to beat their bitter rivals for a second consecutive time and take a six point lead at the top. With a goal difference of 16 in their favour too, it is fair to say that it is for all purposes a seven point cushion.

That said, there are still six games to play and another derby to come. Postecoglou will be stressing that to his players and ensuring the finish the weekend no worse than how they started it.

The win means the Hoops are unbeaten in their last 26 Premiership games which is an incredible run, particularly considering the start they had both domestically and in Europe. They also have the small matter of a Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers next week as they look to continue their bid for a treble.
Greek striker Georgios Giakoumakis won the Premiership player of the month for March following two hat-tricks in the month. He’s really shown up with Kyogo missing since December but the Japanese could make a long-awaited appearance in this one.

St Johnstone Preview – Could Saints spring a huge surprise and record a third straight win?

Whilst last weekend could prove crucial in terms of the destination of the title, it was also an important one at the other end of the table. St Johnstone and Dundee have been locked together for much of the season but there is now a significant gap opening up between the Tayside rivals. Saints win over Livingston coupled with Dundee only drawing with Aberdeen means there is now six points separating the two.

Just as his opposite number on Saturday knows there is work to do, Callum Davidson will be demanding his players continue their recent good form and challenge them to get something from this match. S

Saints have taken seven points from their last three games and are looking for a third straight victory in the league for the first time 2019. It’s remarkable considering their cup success last season but further incentive as they look to spring a huge surprise over the current leaders.

The big difference between the St Johnstone of now compared to earlier in the season is the number of goals they are conceding. It’s just two in the last four games and they kept their first away clean sheet in nine last time out. It may be small shoots of improvement but improvement nonetheless.

Celtic vs St Johnstone Betting Advice

A win here and Celtic can put real pressure on Rangers who play the following day whilst St Johnstone will not want to give Dundee any glimmer of hope whilst still having ambitions to perhaps chase the team above them and potentially even escape the relegation playoff spot.

Davidson will be hoping for a change in fortune in this fixture as Saints have lost each of the three meetings against Celtic this season – twice in the league and also in the semi-final of the League Cup.

Key Facts –  Celtic vs St Johnstone Betting Tip

  • Celtic sit six points clear at the top of the Premiership following last weekend’s 2-1 win at Ibrox
  • St Johnstone extended the gap between themselves and bottom club Dundee to six with a win last Saturday
  • This will be the fourth meeting between the teams this season, with Celtic winning each of the previous three

Saints are the lowest scorers in the division and are coming up against a Celtic defence which is the best in the Premiership. Back the Hoops to win without conceding.
