At the time of writing, Dundee United have climbed into fourth spot in the Premiership and again looking to secure the position which would see them play some form of European football next season. For a while, it looked like the Arabs would struggle to make the top six such was their poor form and inability to buy a win. United lost six straight in the league and won only one of 11 matches from the end of October until they defeated Ross County in January.
Since that success, Tam Courts’ men have lost just once and that was against leaders Celtic. It looked as though they were set for a point from that game too, only to concede in the final minutes.
They come into this game on the back of keeping four clean sheets after conceding late on to Celtic. It highlights just how well organised they are and that will give them confidence of getting some sort of result against Rangers on Sunday. United kept their opponents at bay in the first meeting between the two here, ending Rangers’ unbeaten domestic run with a 1-0 success.
Tony Watt is off the mark for his new club and took his personally tally to 10 for the season in the league. It’s already his best ever return in a campaign and the former Celtic player will be desperate to add to that in this one.

The pressure was on Rangers following the 3-0 loss to Celtic in the derby which also seen them relinquish top spot to their rivals. To the Dutchman’s credit the response has been a very positive one with Rangers winning their next four matches across three competitions.

The second leg is to come next week but it is a very strong position they have put themselves in.

Rangers know that a win here would put them back above Celtic who play later on on Sunday whilst any dropped points would only provide their rivals with further motivation before their own game.
Van Bronckhurst’s men are yet to win away from home in the Premiership in 2022. Draws with Aberdeen and Ross County before that derby defeat at Celtic Park has shown some vulnerabilities on their travels.
