Dundee Preview – Can Dundee register a third home win in their last four league matches?
Dundee’s match with St Mirren scheduled for last weekend was postponed due to the weather. On one hand it gives James McPake some extra time to prepare for this game and his players additional rest, but it also means they didn’t have a chance to move closer to the teams above them. After last week’s draw away to St Johnstone they remain in second place – five points behind Ross County now and still a couple above Saints.
McPake will be aware that he has to somehow find a way to get his side back to winning ways. Their last win in the league was back on the 1st of December, taking one point from their next seven.
With options up front looking quite limited, Dundee have sought to bring in some reinforcements in that area. Zak Rudden is enjoying a productive season for Championship outfit Partick Thistle and has made the step up to the top-flight until the end of the campaign. He joins the experienced Niall McGinn who came in from Aberdeen last week. Both could feature in this game.
Their inclusions will be a big boost to a team who have failed to score in five of their last seven league matches.
Dundee United Preview – Will United follow up their win against their arch rivals from earlier in the season?
It was a case of so near yet so far for Dundee United on Saturday. Tam Courts’ men put in a brilliant defensive performance to frustrate Celtic for 90 minutes, only to concede the crucial goal in the first minute of added time. Although they didn’t create a huge amount of their own, they would have thought they had done enough to gain a point and continue what has been a positive spell for them.
It followed their come from behind win against Ross County in midweek and progressing in the Scottish Cup after defeating Kilmarnock. The latter of those were away from home but they remain in search of a first league victory on the road since October.

Since defeating Hibs 3-0, United have taken two points from a possible 18 on the road. Their last three losses have all been by a single goal and them failing to get on the score sheet, again highlighting their own issues in front of goal. Tony Watt has come in from Motherwell to help bolster their attack but looks like being deployed more on the wing than as a central striker.
United have also brought in Tim Akinola from Arsenal on loan. He will be a straight replacement for Jeando Fuchs who left the club last week.

Dundee’s need for points is obviously a lot greater than their rivals but United will be hoping to boost their top six hopes and will take encouragement from their performance at the weekend. The issue is obviously scoring goals for both teams which could see a single goal settle it.
That was the case back in September when the teams met at Tannadice – United prevailing 1-0 on that occasion.
