The Dutch responded to defeat in Turkey in their opening qualifier with a win at the weekend. And will need to do similar here against to Gibraltar to keep pace with the group leaders.

Gibraltar Preview – Will Gibraltar be any more competitive than they have been in their opening qualification games?

For a nation with such limited resources and still very much in it’s infancy, it should be no surprise to learn that defeat to Montenegro on Saturday was Gibraltar’s 12th successive defeat in World Cup qualification. They remain in search for their first point in any major tournament qualification campaign and it’s unlikely that they are going to end that here against one of the fancied sides in Group G.

The 4-1 loss away to Montenegro came on the back of a 3-0 defeat at home to Norway – both results seeing them adopt the position that they are expected to fill come the end of the campaign, in bottom spot.

To Gibraltar’s credit they are showing improvement in the Nations League – a competition which is designed to see teams of similar levels playing each other. An unbeaten campaign against Liechtenstein and San Marino last time out earns them promotion into the league above.
Uruguayan head coach Julio Ribas will take encouragement from his team’s showing in the Nations League and be realistic that when facing off against much higher ranked nations is more often than not going to end in defeats, but he will be looking for steady improvements.

Netherlands Preview – Can De Boer lead his team to a much-needed win to stay in touch with leaders Turkey?

The Dutch are rarely boring so last week’s 4-2 loss in Turkey to open up their campaign should not be overly surprising. In a group which also contains Norway and Montenegro (who have maximum points from two games), these early dropped points are not ideal – especially as the Netherlands missed out on reaching the previous World Cup due to a similar sort of beginning to their section.

Frank de Boer took over from Ronald Koeman in September last year and has this summer’s European Championships to look forward to. But it’s already a shaky start for the new man in charge.

De Boer’s men did get back to winning ways with a 2-0 win at home to Latvia on Saturday and they will be expecting to follow that up with another comfortable success against the lowest-seeded team in the section. And they need to as well considering they are third in the group and three points behind both of the top two.

Considering the improvement the Dutch showed under Koeman in the year prior to his departure then de Boer knows he has to continue that – both in their pursuit of qualification to the finals in Qatar next summer and also a strong showing at Euro 2020.

Gibraltar vs Netherlands Betting Advice

This is likely be as routine a victory as they come at this level for Netherlands. as they prepare to face Gibraltar for the first time. It also represents the Dutch’s final competitive game before they face Ukraine in their first match at Euro 2020.

For the home team it’s basically a case of damage limitation from the outset and attempting to keep the score down. The Dutch squad still possess plenty of attacking talent.
