Kilmarnock can clinch the Championship title with a win over Arbroath but the visitors could overtake their opponents should they get three points, heading into the final game of the season next weekend.

Kilmarnock – Can Killie bounce back from defeat last week and secure a return to the Premiership?

The end is in sight for Killie who know that a win here would not only secure the title but promotion back to the Scottish Premiership at the first time of asking. It could have been even better for the Rugby Park club had they avoided defeat last weekend, but a 2-1 loss away to Inverness Caley Thistle means the lead between themselves and Arbroath is just one point. That is their first defeat in the league since the 9th of February – they won seven and drew two in between those defeats.

Derek McInnes will hope the return home will be in his team’s favour. Kilmarnock are going in search of a seventh straight win in the league at Rugby Park, something they haven’t achieved in a league campaign for a very long time.

8/1
(odds taken 2000 GMT, Saturday 16 April)
In that run of six consecutive home wins Killie have scored 14 goals and conceded just three. It’s indicative of the improvement and consistency they have found since replacing Tommy Wright earlier in the campaign. And it’s now all about finishing the job.
There’s no doubt the Ayrshire club will want to avoid any drama and wrap the title up in this game but should they need it, they face Raith Rovers next weekend in what would be the final game of the regular season.

Arbroath Preview – Will Arbroath’s dream season continue with a win and moving into top spot with one match to go?

Arbroath have punched above their weight in the Championship since winning promotion to this level back in 2019. Finishes of fifth and seventh were seen as being more than respectable considering their part-time status and facing full-time clubs who have significantly bigger budgets. That was until this season where they have went above and beyond any realistic expectations.

With two games of the Championship season to go, the Lichties know if they take maximum points from those games then they will be playing in the Scottish Premiership for the first time in their history. It has been a remarkable campaign for Dick Campbell and his players.

Arbroath come into this game on the back of two very different victories. A hard-earned 1-0 win away to Hamilton was followed by a thumping 5-1 victory at home to Queen of the South, having gone a goal behind. It shows both sides of their game and the various ways in which they can find a way to win.

Stretching back further, Arbroath have lost just one of their last 13 league games. They’ve won six of those games and kept seven clean sheets in the process. They arrive at Rugby Park in confident mood.

Kilmarnock vs Arbroath Betting Advice

It is the match-up everybody wanted. Killie have been the favourites for the league title all season but face the underdogs in Arbroath who have been stubbornly impressive throughout the campaign. The hosts know that better than anybody. Not only have they been in a battle with them for the Championship, they come into the fourth meeting between the two teams yet to get the better of Arbroath.

Campbell’s men have won twice and drawn the other in the head to heads, and they’re also yet to concede against the league leaders.

Key Facts –  Kilmarnock vs Arbroath Betting Tip

  • Killie lost their first game in nine league games with a 2-1 defeat away to Inverness
  • Arbroath have lost just one of their last 10 games in the Championship
  • The visitors are undefeated in three meetings against Killie this season, winning two of them

It would be foolish to back against an Arbroath team who continue to surprise everybody and have been written off so many times. They have a way of playing against Kilmarnock and look good value to avoid defeat in this game once again.
