Top flight action returns in Scotland this week with a clash between Kilmarnock and Ross County – two teams who will be eyeing points to ensure they remain free of any real relegation worries.

Kilmarnock Preview – Will Killie signal the end of three straight league defeats by taking three points here?

It may have been the international break but Kilmarnock were in League Cup action at the same time, taking maximum points from games against Dumbarton and Clyde. They are games which Killie should be winning and although it means little in terms of that competition (they won’t progress to the knockout stages) it does end a run of three straight defeats in the league. All three losses were by a one-goal margin and each them seen Alex Dyer’s men fail to score.

The Kilmarnock manager will be hoping the the wins in the last week will set them up for this important game.

Kilmarnock remain in sixth spot despite those defeats but it is an incredibly tight area of the table where two point separate them from 10th placed Livingston. It’s which games against those teams become even more important, especially at home.
Killie’s last win at Rugby Park was in the middle of September but in fairness to them, the two games since then have been narrow losses against Hibernian and Rangers. The way in which the fixtures work means this will be their last home game until the 20th December.

Ross County Preview – Are County set to grab their first league win since September?

Two wins to start to the league season was the perfect beginning to life as the sole manager of Ross County for Stuart Kettlewell who was in a job-sharing arrangement until the close season. Kettlewell would have know that was unsustainable and so it’s proved as County are now six games without a win in the league. Their only success since those wins was a 1-0 success in Perth against St Johnstone.

Although they have a decent cushion over the bottom two as it stands, they’ve also played more games and the longer this winless run goes the more confidence will drop.

It’s also coming into a real difficult period of the season for County who face all of the top three within their next four games, making this and their home clash with Hamilton next month all that more crucial.

Similar to their weekend opponents, Ross County were able to pick up wins against lower league opposition in the League Cup during the international break. Unlike Kilmarnock, however, their victories seen them top their group and they’ll face Celtic in the last-16 next weekend, just to add to their already challenging schedule.

Kilmarnock vs Ross County Betting Advice

This will be the second meeting of the season between the clubs with the match in Dingwall back in August ending 2-2 after a very entertaining game. Kilmarnock have enjoyed the meetings against Ross County at Rugby Park in recent times having won three and drawn the other in the last four contests. County’s last win here was back in 2017.

These two teams finished in the bottom half of the table last season but both will feel they are capable of sneaking sixth spot with so little between many of the teams in this year’s Scottish Premiership.

Key Facts – Kilmarnock vs Ross County Betting Tip

  • Two wins in the League Cup has been welcome relief for Kilmarnock following a poor recent run in the league
  • Since beating St Johnstone, Ross County have failed to win any of their next six in the league
  • The teams played out a 2-2 draw in the Highlands earlier on in the season

As such, it makes Saturday’s game very important – particularly as both have been poor in the league of late. Kilmarnock do have the edge in recent games here, though, and with this being their only home game for a month, can make it count with all three points.
