Livingston Preview – Will Livi make home advantage count and progress into the next round?

Tuesday always had the look of being an important game in the context of Livingston’s season. A home game against a team who could have went within a point of them with a win and pull them into the relegation conversation. As it was, David Martindale’s team were 2-0 winners and are now nine points clear of bottom place St Johnstone and seven above Dundee – the team they beat. There may be 17 games to play but you feel that is already enough to see them look forward to another season in the Premiership such is the form of the teams below them.

Bruce Anderson was the hero on Tuesday scoring both goals. The former Aberdeen man now has nine goals in all competitions, making it the most prolific of his career to date.

Whilst there is still some hope they could move into the top six, there is also a feeling they can concentrate on the Scottish Cup and getting a good run in it. Having reached the final of the League Cup last season there is no doubt they are capable on their day.

Livi reached the fifth round last season and their best ever showing was making it to the semi-final stage back in 2004, losing to eventual winners Celtic. Martindale will feel they can put together a good cup run with a bit of luck.

Ross County Preview – Can County record what would be a rare away win in the Scottish Cup?

Their opponents might be able to breathe a bit easier and be looking up rather than down, but Ross County are still very much involved in the scrap at the bottom. Malky Mackay’s men did their survival hopes no harm at all on Tuesday, though, with a 3-1 win at home to Motherwell. The victory made all the sweeter by the fact that the Highlanders went down to 10 men with the game level.

It leaves them third bottom but with a seven and five point lead over 12th and 11th respectively. It is looking a lot more encouraging than it did earlier in the campaign.

Away ties have not been the kindest to County in the last decade or so, though. Their only win the last 10 away Scottish Cup games was against Motherwell back in 2019. It’s a run which stretches back to 2008. Despite that, they did reach the final back in 2010 and that included a famous win against Celtic in the semi-final.

Mackay knows that the priority is clearly staying in the league and avoiding the relegation playoff but he will want to put a winning run together and it is now just three defeats in their last 11 games.

Livingston vs Ross County Betting Advice

This will be third meeting between the teams this season and it is Livingston who have held the upper hand. A win at Dingwall was followed by a share of the points just over a month ago when the teams met here. It now means that Livi are unbeaten in six meetings against County.

There’s no doubt these are two teams who are improving the more football they play so it promises to be another close match.

Key Facts –  Livingston vs Ross County Betting Tip

  • Livingston have never reached the final of this competition
  • Ross County have won just one of their last 10 away games in the Scottish Cup
  • The home team are unbeaten in the last six meetings between the two clubs

Livingston’s home matches don’t tend to feature many goals but with this being a cup game and played to a finish, it should see the teams go for it. Eight of County’s last 10 games have seen both teams scoring and that’s the way to go here.
