Millwall Preview

It’s no surprise to see where Neil Harris’ men are considering the size of the budget the manager has to work with and the resources at his disposal. It’s a testament to the efforts of Harris that Millwall are still very much in control of their own destiny in terms of remaining at this level for another season. The current situation sees them two points clear of third bottom Rotherham and also with a game in hand over all the other teams involved in the relegation battle. The game in hand is from their excellent run in the FA Cup where they reached the quarter-final and came within a few minutes of making the last four, but that is now a distant memory and it’s now all about survival. The Lions face a difficult run-in with games against teams involved in the battle for promotion, but they do have three of their last five games at home which could yet prove crucial. Last weekend’s point away to Sheffield United could also be extremely significant with the margins of error so small at the foot of the table and Harris will be hoping his team can take confidence from that result into this Easter weekend double header with a trip to Aston Villa set for Monday. Two wins and a couple of draws from their last five games suggests that they’re finding some form at just the right time.

Key-Facts – Millwall v Brentford

  • Millwall are very much involved in the battle to avoid the drop with just two points between them and the relegation zone
  • Brentford’s season is virtually done in terms of importance and are on a poor run of form at the moment
  • Brentford have managed only two wins away from home all season in the Championship

Brentford Preview

Brentford are another one of those teams who are in the mid-table wilderness with neither hopes of promotion or any fear of relegation. It’s a situation that more than a few clubs in the Championship would relish being in – including their opponents on Friday – but with such a talented squad and raised expectations at the outset of this season, the Bees will be somewhat disappointed they are not in contention for a playoff place at least. Dean Smith moving to Aston Villa as manager earlier in the season has obviously had an impact and it will pain the club to see their former boss set to compete in the end of season playoffs whilst they are definitely preparing for another season in the Championship. Brentford come into their next match on a really poor run of form which has seen them win one of their last seven games. It’s this last period of the season that has seen them drop out of consideration for the top six and into 14th spot in the table and 11 points off Bristol City in sixth. It’s an ambitious club these days, however, and they will certainly be targeting a better season next time around.

Millwall v Brentford Betting Advice

There’s only 13 miles between these two teams so on top of this being a crucially important game for the hosts Millwall, it’s also a local rivalry meaning the visitors will be in no mood to do their opponents any favours despite having little to play for other than pride, themselves. A win for the home team would go a long way to ensuring they stay in the Championship for another season, although it wouldn’t guarantee them with a number of games still left to play.

I alluded to the fact that with three of their remaining five games left to play being at home for the Lions that it would be in their favour. The Den is arguably the most intimidating atmosphere in the league and the fans get right behind their team. It’s not always translated into points, however, but with a win and a draw in their last two home games the feeling is Millwall are beginning to find performances and results in the games that will really matter to their season. Their chances will also be helped by the fact that Brentford are one of their poorer travellers in the league, winning just twice away all season. The circumstances are such on Friday that the home team can take all three points and a step to safety.
