Motherwell and Ross County will be happy with how their respective seasons have started, particularly on the back of two good wins last week. Both will be hoping to follow that up with another three points at Fir Park on Saturday.

Motherwell Preview – Can ‘Well move into second place above Rangers with a fourth straight win?

It may have been a slow beginning to the season for Motherwell having taken one point from their first two matches but they have certainly picked up the winning thread since. Three straight wins have saw them rise to third place and they have a good opportunity to make that four on Saturday. Last weekend’s win at Tynecastle was arguably their best performance and most significant result of the season. Hearts may well be bottom but they remain one of the biggest clubs in the league. It was a performance we have come to expect from Stephen Robinson’s men. A display that was full of pace, attacking threat and dynamism. It was also the third time in succession that they have scored three goals in a league game.

With Rangers and Celtic not playing until tomorrow this is a chance for Motherwell to move into second place and just two points off top spot. It may just be temporary but it would highlight how well they have done in this early part of the campaign and just what this exciting team can be capable of throughout the campaign. Robinson will know full well the importance of following up last week’s excellent win on the road with three points at home.

Ross County Preview – Will County find their first away win of the campaign to back up last week’s victory over St Mirren?

Promotion to the top-flight never comes with any guarantee but although still early, the signs are positive for Ross County. Five games in and the Highlanders have accumulated seven points. Last weekend’s win at home to St Mirren stood out as being an important fixture for County and they were able to record their second win of the campaign. Had they lost that it would have been four games without a victory and that’s when doubts could have started to creep in. As it is, it’s further evidence that they will be capable of picking up points at home against teams likely to be in the bottom six. Their only other victory this term came at home to Hamilton on the opening day of the season.

County will not wish to be involved in a relegation scrap but the only way they are going to avoid that is by getting points on their travels and taking points off some of the bigger teams. County’s last away game was at Aberdeen and they were dispatched with ease, losing 3-0. The game was over as a contest at half-time essentially so the aim will be to stay in this match for as long as possible, giving them a chance to get a result.

Key-Facts – Motherwell v Ross County

  • Motherwell have been one of the most exciting teams in the league this season and are going for a fourth straight win
  • County picked up an important win in the context of their season last week but have struggled on the road so far
  • Motherwell have scored three goals in each of their last three matches

Motherwell v Ross County Betting Advice

Ross County have fond memories of playing at Fir Park having won here in the Scottish Cup back in January when they were a Championship outfit. That game acted as a turning point in ‘Well’s season in that they went on a great run of form and they have basically carried that into this new season. County will travel in the knowledge that they know they can get a result but this is a totally different Motherwell team they are facing.

Anybody facing this Motherwell team at the moment will know they have to defend well and carry a threat going forward. Livingston are the only to to prevent them scoring and that was back on the opening day. County will have to defend much better than when away to Aberdeen but that is easier said than done. ‘Well’s confidence is high at the moment and they are playing some excellent stuff, take them to see off County at home.
