Motherwell Preview – Will ‘Well bounce back from disappointing defeat last time out?

Graham Alexander will be growing more frustrated by the day with his Motherwell players. Saturday’s 3-0 defeat away to Dundee was arguably the worst performance of the season having come on the back of excellent victories against Hearts and Aberdeen. The truth is it could have been an even bigger defeat and it’s something which they will be looking to respond to straightaway to ensure they remain comfortable in the top six which will be their overall aim for the season.

‘Well are currently in fifth place – four points behind United and three ahead of Hibs who do have a couple of games in hand. With a visit to Easter Road and then Celtic Park to come after this one it’s a testing run of fixtures.

 

 

There’s no doubting this team are capable of big performances and results. The aforementioned results against bigger clubs shows that, as does their draw away to Rangers earlier this season. The issue is their consistency. And not only of the end result, but also the level of performance they turn in week to week.

Its four wins in their last seven home games in the league for Motherwell. Their two defeats in that time have come against Celtic and Rangers so there is more optimism that they will be able to find a standard required to get back to winning ways in this one.

Dundee United Preview – Can United gain what would be a third away win of the season?

Tam Courts has taken to top-flight coaching seamlessly since being appointed as Dundee United boss in the summer. The Arabs are in fourth coming into this game and that’s despite conceding late on against Ross County on Saturday to deprive them of what would have been a third away win of the season.

Instead it now means United have won one of their last five league matches, that being the controversial 1-0 success at home to Aberdeen last weekend. Despite that they sit in fourth place and could go up to third with victory here ahead of Hearts’ game later on in this round of fixtures.

Only two teams have scored fewer goals than United in the Premiership so far this season. They are averaging one goal per match which indicates how difficult they are to beat. Courts’ team have scored multiple goals in just three league games out a possible 15. However they’ve conceded two goals or more in just three games as well.

United have games against Celtic, Rangers and Hibs to come before the end of this year whilst they will start 2020 with a derby against rivals Dundee. If they get to that winter break in a similar position than the one they’re in currently it would be a huge achievement.
