Motherwell Preview – Can ‘Well bounce back from Euro disappointment?
A heavy midweek 3-0 loss away from home in Israel against Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the Europa League saw Motherwell’s dreams of further involvement in the competition evaporate and they’ll now return to the bread-and-butter of the Scottish Premiership this Sunday against league leaders, Rangers.
After a slow and poor start to the Scottish top flight season which resulted in six matches without a win for Sunday’s hosts (and included four defeats), Motherwell started to hit their stride in the Europa League with wins over Irish clubs, Glentoran and Coleraine, but came a cropper against Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
However, ‘Well head into this clash against Rangers having recorded back-to-back league wins against St Johnstone and Aberdeen but with just two wins from their last 10 matches at Fir Park (which includes a 2-0 loss to Rangers in their last meeting at home), it looks like Motherwell will have their work cut out here.

Whilst their hosts were getting beaten in Israel during the week, Rangers were running amok in the Netherlands as they handed Willem II a 4-0 thrashing in the Europa League to progress through to the play-off stage where they’ll meet Turkish giants, Galatasaray, at Ibrox.
First things first though, and it’s off to Motherwell for this Sunday’s lunchtime clash where the visitors will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the Scottish Premiership as ‘auld rivals’ Celtic are now sitting in 2nd place and just one point behind Gers.
Rangers have hit the ground running this season though as they’re still unbeaten after the first eight matches of this new term, winning six of these, while results away from home have also been solid with wins at Aberdeen and Hamilton Academical, and six of their last 10 away matches have also seen over 2.5 goals.
