There were two division between these teams last season but promotion for Queens Park coupled with relegation for Dundee means they’re Championship division rivals. It’s League Cup points up for grabs on Tuesday, though.

Queens Park – Can Spiders continue their impressive start by making it three consecutive wins?

Owen Coyle came in towards the end of last season to take over at Queens Park, and was in a rather peculiar position of coming into a club who were in with a solid chance of promotion. Usually, managers are assuming charge of teams struggling to stay in a league or with little to play for. Instead, Queens Park consolidated their position in the playoffs and then went on an excellent run in the post-season to secure their first ever season in the Championship.

Backed my ambitious owners and with a progressive set-up, Coyle will be hoping to continue the improvement he has overseen to date by what would have seemed an unthinkable challenge for the top-flight.

It has been a really positive start to the League Cup campaign for the Spiders, too. Two wins against lower league opposition may not seem all that impressive, but scoring nine goals and the style of of their wins is why Coyle will be encouraged.
This match and the final game away to Hamilton on Saturday was always going to be their most testing games and with both those opponents also on six points (Hamilton having played three games), they will be crucial in determining who qualifies for the knockout phase.

Dundee Preview – Will Dundee maintain their own 100% record and take control of the section?

There was no hiding the disappointment for Dundee who suffered an immediate return to the Championship having finished bottom of the top-flight last season. A change in manager failed to see them withstand relegation and the club have turned to the experienced Englishman Gary Bowyer as the bid to mount a title challenge in what looks a wide open league.

Before that Dundee will hope to prolong their own winning run in the League Cup. They have dismantled both Hamilton and Stranraer, winning 3-0 in each game. Having reached the quarter-finals 12 months ago, a similar sort of run would be welcome at Dens Park.

There hasn’t been a huge turnover in players over the summer with the majority of last season’s squad still in place. Bowyer will be hopeful his arrival can bring the best out of them, especially as they’re now operating at a lower level. The likes of Niall McGinn and Zak Rudden were January signings whilst Cillian Sheridan missed most of the season due to injury – so there should be no shortage of goals.

Dundee will end their campaign on Saturday with a home game against Forfar, a match they will be looking to win, meaning they know three points here would essentially leave them on the cusp of finishing top.

Queens Park vs Dundee Betting Advice

This could well be a game which has bearings on the playoff positions or higher in this season’s Championship in around 10 months times. Dundee are favourites with many for the title but their opponents are capable of mixing it with them and will be looking to show that even at this early stage.

The match has been a long time coming, as well, with this the first competitive game in just under a decade.

Key Facts –  Queens Park vs Dundee Athletic Betting Tip

  • Queens Park have scored nine goals in their first two matches, defeating Stranraer and Forfar
  • Dundee have yet to concede in this group with a pair of 3-0 wins over Hamilton and Stranraer
  • This is the first time the teams have met since clashing in this competition 10 years ago – Queens Park were 2-1 winners on that occasion

There have been 18 goals in the four games these teams have played so far in this competition so all the signs are there should be more in store tomorrow. Over 2.5 goals is the standout bet.
