It may only be the first week of March but Rangers’ domestic season is in danger of being over already. The Ibrox club bowed out of the Scottish Cup at the quarter-final stage on Saturday and are now 12 points behind leaders Celtic going into this game following a dismal run of form in the league. From being two points behind the champions, with a game in hand, coming into the new year, it’s been a troubling period for Steven Gerrard and his players.
Since coming back from the winter break Rangers have dropped points in four of their eight league games. To put that into context, Gerrard’s men only dropped points in three games in the first half of the campaign.

Three of Hamilton’s last five games of the regular season are against teams currently in the bottom half. This, in theory, should give them a better opportunity of accumulating points and there have been some encouraging performances – both notably away to Hearts and at home to Motherwell.

Hamilton have also had an extended break due to their earlier exit from the Scottish Cup. Their last game was back on the 15th of February. Rice will be hoping that time will have refreshed his small squad and given them a focus for the next five games before the split.
