It’s a massive game at the bottom of the Premiership this weekend as Ross County take on Dundee with the hope of moving closer to their relegation rivals.

There’s no doubt it’s been a slow burner for Malky McKay since arriving at Ross County in the summer but the signs are they are beginning to find some consistency and results are showing that. County may still be bottom of the table and three points from safety but they have lost just one of their last five in the league – and that came away to Rangers when going down 4-2. Having picked up just three points from their first 10 games it is a definitive upturn in form.
County’s resurgence began with an emphatic 5-0 win away to Dundee which gave them their first three points of the season. They’ve since beaten Hibs before recent draws against Dundee United and St Mirren – regularly showing they are competitive against teams in the middle part of the division.
McKay knows his team will have to continue picking up points against those teams and beat the others who are likely to be involved in the relegation scrap – and that undoubtedly will include tomorrow’s opponents.
Harry Clarke has been a standout for County so far this season and scored in the 5-0 win at Dens Park. He was sent off in the draw with United so missed last weekend’s match but he will almost certainly return to the starting line-up for this one as he looks to pick up where he left off.
Dundee Preview – Can Dundee pick up what would be a rare away win?
Dundee are another team who have shown improvement in recent weeks with three wins in their last five. Like County, their defeats have come where you expect them to pick up little by losing at home to Celtic and away to Rangers. James McPake will not be overly happy with the defending in those losses but he will take heart from the other performances and results.
The Dark Blues have beaten St Mirren away before impressive home wins over Motherwell and St Johnstone. Perhaps more importantly they have kept clean sheets in each of those wins.

That recent good run sees them in 10th place and now five clear of Ross County. Considering that loss at the end of October it’s a decent position they find themselves in and one they will be looking to maintain at the very least.
The only two away games in which Dundee have managed to avoid defeat so far this season have been the win in Paisley and holding third place Hearts to a draw at Tynecastle. They’ve lost the other five with a concession of 14 goals so there is a need to start picking up more points on their travels to see them survive.
