Ross County – Will County move closer to group leaders with three points here?

After an impressive first season in charge for Malky Mackay, where his team finished in the top six, Ross County are now attempting to match that with a similar campaign this time around. Considering they had such a poor start failing to win in any of the first round of games, it was a huge effort from all involved but the danger for teams such as the Dingwall club is being able to hold on to key players come the end of the season.

Regan Charles Cook finished joint top scorer in the Premiership and it was certain a club would pick him up on a free transfer. Being able to replace his goals is going to be an important factor if County are to have another successful season.

Two key arrivals look like being Yan Dhanda on loan from Swansea and Jordie Hiwula who has been signed on a similar deal from Doncanster. Dhanda is tasked with being the creative force whilst Hiwula is looking to rediscover from the form which seen him score 12 goals in League One for Coventry three seasons ago.
Both made their debuts in the first match of County’s League Cup campaign against Highland League outfit Buckie Thistle, a game ending 1-1 after 90 minutes before they prevailed on penalties giving them two points in total. Mackay will be hoping for a step forward in this their second match,

Dunfermilne Athletic Preview – Can the Pars continue impressive form and keep setting the pace in section?

Relegation from the Championship last season means Dunfermilne will be playing in the third tier of Scottish football for the first time since 2016. James McPake has been installed as the man tasked with getting an immediate return and hoping to recover from two really poor appointments in the shape of Peter Grant and John Hughes.

Whilst the lead is obviously the priority for the Pars, McPake will be delighted with how his new side have performed in the opening two matches of this League Cup campaign.

Dunfermilne have not dropped a point and yet to concede goal following a 5-0 thrashing of Buckie Thistle in midweek. That came after a comfortable derby victory away to East Fife last Saturday. There’s no doubt this will be their sternest test yet but they come into it in really good form.

Lewis McCann has came through the youth system at East End Park and is showing signs of being a really crucial player for them this season. He’s scored three goals in the first two wins and looks to be relishing the responsibility of being a key part of the Pars’ attack.

Ross County vs Dunfermilne Athletic Betting Advice

This looks like being a pivotal game in the context of this section. Only the group winners guaranteed of progressing to the knockout stages. Dunfermilne have a four point advantage but have also played a game more than both County and Alloa who they are also yet to play. A win here for the Pars, though, and it is a long way back for their Premiership hosts.

This will be the first meeting between the teams since Ross County were in the Championship back in 2019. It’s the first in a cup format since 2016. A game the Dingwall club eventually prevailed in following a replay.

Key Facts –  Ross County vs Dunfermilne Athletic Betting Tip

  • Ross County could only draw with Buckie Thistle in 90 minutes before defeating the Highland League club on penalties
  • Dunfermilne have won both games with ease, scoring seven and keeping two clean sheets
  • This is the first meeting between the clubs in cup competition since 2016 (1-0 win for County in a Scottish Cup replay)

Dunfermilne have shown real attacking intent under McPake so both teams to score looks like being a good bet. Especially with County knowing they need to go for the win.
