The penultimate round of fixtures in Scotland this midweek and bottom club Hamilton travel north to face Ross County knowing that anything less than a win and they could be relegated.

Ross County Preview – Can County make it consecutive wins and take a big step to safety?

A draw is enough to ensure Ross County do not finish bottom and therefore relegated to the Championship but a win would put them in a strong position to avoid the relegation playoff spot as well. John Hughes’ men secured a vital win when beating Dundee United 2-0 last time out meaning they sit third bottom – a point clear of Kilmarnock and three better off than their next opponents.

County’s last game of the regular season will see them face Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday and it’s likely that no matter what happens in this match, they will still require a result to see them clear of at least one of the above scenarios. So there remains work to do.

Our betting prediction
Both teams to score

It was beginning to look very bleak for Hughes and County having went five games without a win and taking just one point during that run. It made the win at Tannadice surprising as much as anything else. And it could well be the vital result.

Ross County have managed three wins in their last eight home games which is not a terrible return for a team battling against relegation. The only time they have failed to score in their last nine league games at Dingwall was a defeat to United back in February, so you feel they have goals in them.

Hamilton Preview – Are Hamilton set to extend their great escape attempt by going to the last day?

Brian Rice has continued to keep the faith as his Hamilton side attempt to do the unthinkable and avoid relegation once again. It’s been last chance saloon since losing at home to Motherwell and they were able to survive the first trapdoor when beating St Mirren 2-1 in their most recent game – and they are likely going to have to take six points from their remaining two games if they are to finish 11th or better.

Accies are two points behind Kilmarnock and a further point adrift of County. They have to assume Killie win their match against St Mirren meaning a draw will not be good enough for them.

The win over St Mirren last time out was their first victory since the middle of February and considering the situations that Hamilton have been in over the years, you wouldn’t put it past them getting the results they need to at least make the relegation playoff but it would be their best attempt yet.

Five of Hamilton’s seven wins have come on their travels which will give them some further confidence as they make the long trip north.

Ross County vs Hamilton Betting Advice

It’s a chance to take a big step towards Premiership football for the home team whilst being a make or break game for Hamilton. The match also sees the two worst defences in the league clash as the teams have conceded a combined amount of 127 goals – so it’s no surprise to see them in their respective positions.

All three meetings between the teams this season have went the way of the away team with Hamilton winning 2-0 back in December.

Key Facts – Ross County vs Hamilton Betting Tip

  • Ross County can take a huge step to safety with a win, at the same time relegating their opponents
  • Five of Hamilton’s seven wins this season have come away from home, including their last visit here
  • The teams have the second worst and worst defensive records in the Premiership this season

For the neutral a Hamilton win would guarantee drama on the last day of the season and it does feel like a toss of the coin sort of game. Rather than pick a winner I’m inclined to side with goals in this game. Although there is a lot of pressure and nerves on this, games involving both these teams average more than 2.5.
