St Mirren Preview – Will Saints hit the ground running after break to collect a first win in five?
Saints are struggling to find any sort of consistency this season. Their main aim for this campaign was to secure a first top six finishing having agonisingly missed out on it last time around. As it stands, they are in a group of three teams all on 15 points – Hibs and Aberdeen being the other two. The frustration for Jim Goodwin is he would have hoped to be in a better position with recent results being frustrating.
Saints’ last win was a 3-2 success away to Ross County in the middle of October. They have since lost at home to Rangers and Dundee, whilst drawing away to Motherwell and St Johnstone. Goodwin knows that they cannot afford to go on long runs without winning if they are to achieve their goal of a top six finish.
Goodwin’s team have managed just one home win in the league so far this season, that was against Aberdeen in another dramatic five-goal thriller. The only other two points they have picked up at home have come in goalless draw against St Johnstone and Dundee United.
Scoring goals at home has been the main issue for Saints in the first part of this season. Their tally of five goals is the second lowest in the division with opponents Livingston the only one to have scored fewer.

Whilst their hosts are struggling for form at the moment, Livingston are in their best current run of the campaign. David Martindale’s men are looking to extend their unbeaten run to five games having won two and drawn two of their previous four. A win here would put them level on points with St Mirren and that will be sufficient motivation for the visitors in this one.
Livingston haven’t played since the 30th of October (when drawing 0-0 away to Celtic) due to their match with Hibernian being called off. It also means they have played a game less than the teams round about them.

Livi’s victories have come at home to Celtic and on the road against St Johnstone and Ross County where they scored three goals in both of those matches. They’ve also lost just one of their last five away matches, that being a 3-0 defeat at Tynecastle.
Ironically, the only away games in which Livingston have scored are the game’s in which they have won. Martindale’s men have drawn a blank against in their five other away matches, albeit they have squeezed a couple of draws out of those.
