Following reports that PM Theresa May has been talking with her Cabinet about a potential second Brexit Referendum, it has kept the EU drama rolling.

William Hill moved to place both outcomes “Yes” and “No” on a second Brexit Referendum to 5/6 over the weekend.

By Monday, the “Yes” option was back out to even money* (betting odds taken from William Hill on December 17th, 2018 at 6:01 pm). But the move to an odds-on price was a significant one, it being the best market price that has shown up on there being a second vote.

With MP’s playing down any talks about the public having to go to the polls for the second time over this, it is so remarkable that this market is so lively. Brexit is supposed to happen in March 2018. Look back twelve months ago and even the thought of a 2nd Brexit Referendum was pretty far removed.

But after a crazy whirlwind of a week, where the PM had to face a vote of no confidence (which she won) May also cancelled the vote on her divorce deal because of the fears that it would be heavily rejected. The turmoil naturally led punters to see the potential of a second vote rise. The calls for another ‘people’s vote’ certainly were heard louder last week than they had been for a long time.

The possibility is still out there. There is a campaign to get other people’s vote going including support from former Prime Ministers John Major and Tony Blair.
